Hey- [He steps back, trying to move her hand away. It's too late, though, because his hair is all mussed up now.]

That's not what I meant. ...I didn't want you worrying.

[His words seem to placate her if only enough to drop her hand from ruffling his hair.]

Nn. But that turned out pointless. I invested a lot of time in you already so of course I'd worry!

[Arcueid is able to understand her reactions and emotions a little better because of the time spent with Shiki Tohno, but she's not sure why she's specifically mad in this instance (because Noctis is a new person and she simply doesn't talk to a lot of people outside of a small circle).]

[He frowns, casting his gaze to the side.]

I've already been too much of a burden. I was planning on getting out of your hair as soon as possible.

[He looks at his hand in frustration.] But my magic... it's not bringing me back.

Then rest! Idiot!

Make sure your shoulder is healed... Look, I'll even find a doctor for you to make sure it can patch up properly and pay them not to say anything. I have enough money to make sure of that.

Okay, okay... you don't have to keep calling me an idiot. Geez.

[He sighs. She has a point, after all.]

Then I'll just owe you even more.

Oh? But I don't want to ask you for anything.

I know, but... there's no way I'm not in your debt after all of this. So I'll figure something out, eventually.

[Arcued ruffles his hair again, but this time, affectionately and with a smile.]

[He steps back again, letting a small "Hey!" escapes his lips.]

What was that for?

I'm happy! I think. [Arc...]

But you're trying to think of a way to say "thank you," already without really saying. That's kind of sweet.

[Wow this turned embarrassing really quick. Noctis rubs at the back of his neck.]

[Quick, subject change!]

So what about these guys? You going to leave them here? [The vampires, he means.]

Mm.

[Her tone turns serious again as she looks at the undead she just killed.]

When the sun comes again, their bodies will turn to dust. It won't be an issue.

[Brow raise.]

And if someone stumbles across this bloody mess before then?

[Arcueid flaps her hand at Noctis, dismissing the notion.]

Oh, I've been doing this for a long time. The bodies will start disintegrating as the night goes on and when sunlight hits it they're gone!

[He just stares at her, unblinkingly for a moment or two.]

So basically you just leave your mess here for the sun to clean up.

... I can't help, but have the feeling that you made it sound like I'm doing a bad thing.

No... not really, I guess. It's just- It kind of reveals more about the kind of person you are.

[She stops squinting at Noctis suspiciously and straights up, playing with her hair.]

What kind of person do you take me for Noctis?

[He should have expected a question like that after his statement, but he's not prepared for it.]

Um. You're nice, mostly, when you're not tearing a vampire's head off. You're a little... [how to put it nicely] distracted, sometimes, but it doesn't seem to be much of a hindrance to you. Taking things in stride and all that.

[arctype]

[Arcueid looks pleasantly surprised for a second before replying.]

That's a positive impression if I've ever heard one. I'll take it.

[In her own way, she's realized that she likes being liked.]

...Okay. Good. [And Noctis likes pleasing people, or at least making them happy if he can, as much as he won't admit it out loud.]

So, back inside, then? I promise I won't sneak out at night without telling you.

I'll walk you back to my place. I'm going to patrol for another hour or two before returning.

[He nods, and will follow as instructed.]
