I'm far from useless, with or without your help. Just don't get in the way.

[Long strides forward, he just keeps walking. He barely manages to glance over his shoulder at her.]

Besides, what other things would you have me care for? [He's pretty sure he's had this conversation a multitude of times on the island.] On the Island, everything just amounts to a waste of time.

[spellcast]

[They're entering the forest, dense with trees where light barely penetrates through the branches the further they walk in. Spooky as it is, Sabrina keeps up her upbeat conversation with Vergil (well, upbeat on her end anyways)]

You know, for someone who's got a laser focused and narrow minded way of going about things, you ask really tough questions. Especially because of being laser focused and narrow minded.

Anyways, did you ever let anyone that isn't a certain twin brother care about you?

[feuding]

[Vergil doesn't seem to react to the change of scenery, when the trees become taller, and the atmosphere becomes darker. He's seen and experienced far stranger.]

Hmph.

[A moment without saying anything, to the point where it might seem like he even won't respond. But then, surprisingly:]

Like I said, a waste of time. [Attachments were barely even ancillary in Vergil's eyes. If anything, becoming too attached merely meant more cracks in the armor, more sticking points for weakness.] Even Dante just sticks his nose where it doesn't belong too often. It's an annoyance.

[spellcast]

[There's a small flurry of magical light and a PING from Sabrina waving her finger. A flashlight appears in her hand and she turns it on to light the way for them before continuing her talk with Vergil.]

Maybe you need a hobby. Like motorcycle riding. Ooooor surfing. Or chess.

I don't know, I'm just saying, lighten up man.

[feuding]

[He almost rolls his eyes. Motorcycle riding and surfing? That sounds like something Dante would pick up, not him. Still-]

I know how to play chess. [Because of course he does. Then again, knowing doesn't immediately qualify it as a hobby, per se.]

And I read when I have time to kill. You're making assumptions.

[No, Vergil, you still need to lighten up.]

[spellcast]

I think the assumption of you being a killjoy isn't too far off though.

But hey! You're on an adventure with me the magical master of fun. I think you're on the road to improvement!

[feuding]

"Magical master of fun".

[He says it in a way that's clearly criticizing.]

Why don't we just focus on the task at hand for now?

[spellcast]

Well okay, but...

Uh oh. Trouble up ahead.

[And true to her word, there is a party of giant slimes of various colors. They also are sporting sharp teeth which they bare at the duo as they slide towards them. ]

[feuding]

[He spots the slimes with ease, as they're not exactly fast creatures. A hand moves to the hilt of Yamato, ready to draw.]

Trouble? Nothing more than a waste of time.

[He takes long strides forward.]

Stay back.

[Less to protect her, more because he doesn't want Sabrina in his way.]

[spellcast]

[The slimes are quite menacing and they advance on Vergil fearlessly. Sabrina takes a few steps back, shuddering.]

Good call. I don't want to find out what it's like being digested by a slime monster.

[She squints her eyes and she notices that there are... Bars hovering over the heads of the slimes including some numbers and letters and she realizes...]

... Are those HP bars?

[feuding]

[Vergil seemingly doesn't even register the question. A moment more, and the half-demon dashes forward in a blaze, unsheathing Yamato. It slices through the slimes, glittering in the faint light of the forest.

And then (because apparently he was listening):] What?

[HP bars? Does Vergil look like a gamer to you, Sabrina?]

[spellcast]

You know, HP bars. The life meter. The arbitrary amount of life given to lifeforms in a game so you know when you've...

[She stops herself and shakes her head. God, what is she even doing?]

Never mind! You keep up the slicing and dicing Chef Vergil.

[Although these slimes do seem resilient despite the effectiveness of the blade. That last small amount of HP seems to be stubbornly clinging on.]

[feuding]

[Oh. Games. Well, then, immediately everything Sabrina just told him is discarded and otherwise ignored.

Besides, he has slimes to focus on, as she said. Vergil slices at them again, watching their "health" drop... but never far enough. He frowns as one lurches towards him and lunges, but it's easily enough sidestepped for a swordsman like himself.]

Tch. [How annoying.] Stubborn.

[spellcast]

YIKES!

[Sabrina lets out a yelp as she dodges some projectile vomit from the slimes. She clings to her hat's brim before she stands up wrinkling her brows, trying to think of a solution.]

You know what? I've got an idea.

[PING!! And what appears in her hands is... A cardboard can of table salt.

Yes.

The witch prepares herself and calls over to Vergil.]

Vergil! I'm gonna count and then I'm gonna throw this. You cut!

[feuding]

[He quickly glances over his shoulder to see what it is she's referring to, and-

Salt? Really?

r e a l l y]

You can't be serious about this plan.

[What a joke.] Stupid girl, do they look like snails to you?

[spellcast]

[She glares at him and pours some salt into her hand and then throws it at a slime that has that some HP left.

There's a gurgling and shrill shriek as it begins to bubble when the salt makes contact with its eyes and it quickly melts into a puddle. Sabrina shakes her finger at Vergil.]

That's gonna be you if you keep calling me stupid.

Stupid! [There's something about Vergil that makes Sabrina resort to being a 10 year old apparently.]

[feuding]

I'm not-

[He grimaces at how wrong he is when the slime gurgles into nothingness.]

-stupid.

[uuuugggggh]

Stop being a petulant child and throw the salt.

[They're both being children right now.]

[spellcast]

Take one to know one buster.

[And she readies her throwing arm, before calling out.]

BATTER UP!

[And there goes the salt!]

[feuding]

[That's all he needs, his eyes following the arch of the salt flying through the air.

Vergil moves in a blur, the sharpened edge of Yamato once again reaching towards the sky when the container is right above his head. It slices cleanly, spraying salt in a clean, almost mesmerizing white shower. It has no choice but to land on the slimes surrounding them...

And all on Vergil, too.]

[spellcast]

[The slimes melt around them into icky and gooey puddles as the salt pours down from the air. The salt crystals bounce off of the hem of Sabrina's witch hat and she glances at Vergil and seeing that he isn't free from it either she quips...]

Well.

When it rains, it pours.

[she cannot help herself. she never can.]

[feuding]

[Vergil frowns, seeming to lose interest in the slimes as soon as they melt. Instead, he sheaths his sword, annoyed at the sensation of salt caught in the wrapping of its hilt. He runs a hand through his hair and salt dusts off of it.]

We're done here.

[All business, this guy.]

[spellcast]

Got it.

You know, you really should listen to my ideas more. I am full of good ideas.

[feuding]

Are you?

[He's silent for a moment, considering.]

Your magic -- why not just bring us to the castle now? Or is that beyond even your talents?

[spellcast]

[OPENS MOUTH...

CLOSES IT...]

[spellcast]

Give me a second, I'm trying to figure out why I didn't think of that first.
