Hank likes to play the part of the grizzled police lieutenant, but he's not as tough as he seems.

[Sorry Hank, but he means that as a good thing!]

I have a feeling you two will get along well. If you wanted to stay longer for just a day, you'd likely be welcome in his home. I know I wouldn't mind it.

If that's the case, I'll have to bring over a gift. Like a cake or even pears or a fruit basket...

[Ai is gonna be a good guest.]

Oh, and would you like me to bring over one of your new outfits too? Or would you prefer wearing your usual uniform while you're in your world?

You really don't have to do that. Don't feel obligated by any means.

[Bringing a gift, he means. It's not like Hank would be offended either way; he'd be too busy trying to wrap his mind around the fact that Ai is a psychic and from another world.]

But... if you don't mind it, please bring one of my outfits. I don't always wear my uniform in my world, but I don't own anything as fashionable as what you've picked out for me. It'll be a nice change.

Will do! [She even gives him her guarantee by giving him a salute, how cute.]

We're going to have to make it a goal to expand your wardrobe Connor so you can rotate more.

Why do I need to 'rotate' more?

It's so you can have more choices on what to wear! I think it's more fun that way.

[Hank's even commented before that he should wear more than just dress shirts and nice jeans. Connor thinks that he has no reason to decline Ai's enthusiasm regarding this.]

[There's always something new, always something to anticipate. Ai has a feeling this year was going to be quite the ride. ]

Oh... You know, I never got the chance to ask. What do you think of my twin?

[She is curious about his opinion because there are some who notice that the twins were physical reflections, but others who assume the norm due to their very different dispositions. ]

Lien? I like her.

[Connor still believes them to be biological twins, for he has no real reason to think otherwise. Near identical reflections of each other, but with differing personalities.]

She speaks her mind, and isn't afraid to be blunt when necessary. Plus, I have a feeling that she possesses a sharp investigative mind, which I can of course appreciate.

Huh. That's probably one of the most positive first impressions I've ever heard for her...

[Connor either has a logical or actually good judge of character to him, Ai thinks.]

But, um. If she's too abrasive or too... I don't know how too... Crude? I guess that's the word for it? Be sure to be clear with her or she thinks she can get away with it.

[Being able to read people -- and at least form decently accurate first impressions -- is all a part of what he was made to do.]

She's no more straightforward than Hank can be. And sometimes, that perspective is what sparks some of the more interesting conversations between two people.

...Actually, may I ask you something?

[She leans back into her pillows again looking much better compared to when he first arrived. Well, with just a small cough or two.]

[It's good that she at least seems to be feeling better.]

[That question really gets her to pause and even look surprised. Not that the question came out of nowhere, but for a few seconds, Ai's not sure what to say.]

... When I look at you, I think...

[And so she begins poking her fingers together which is a habit of shyness of hers.]

... You're friendly. You're curious and willing to learn. Some of your habits are... Off-putting. But that might be something you can't help since you're an android that's made to analyze and examine what's around you closely. You're helpful and meticulous when you're given a task and you're attentive to how people are feeling. And um... You're gentle...

Oh gosh, I'm rambling. I'm so sorry!

[She's listing quite a bit which shows she's put a lot of thought into what Connor is to her. Wow.]

[That’s… admittedly more than he expected to hear, and it does indeed show that she’s put some thought into her friendship. And listening, he thinks that he’s glad she has — that maybe it isn’t only one-sided, in how much he appreciates the other’s company.]

Don’t apologize. I asked, and you answered.

[Those parts of him, some of which might be called “personality”; he wonders just how far he’s deviated from his original programming, and which parts of those she appreciates the most. And how much of his core hasn’t changed, from when he was nothing more than a machine, an RK800 designed to accomplish a singular task and little more than that.]

Do you really think I’m gentle? You’re the first to describe me in that way.

[Her cheeks feel warm when he asks her his other question so she rubs them with her palms.]

I mean, that's what it feels like when you're with me? Is it different when you deal with other people? I mean um, it just seems to go hand in hand with everything else I just said.

I was created to be straightforward and logical. To be analytical and being able to think critically; empathy and being gentle were not part of that original programming.

[But he feels the need to return her kindness. She’s shown so much of it to him.]

It’s just good to know that I’m… not exactly the same as I once was. That there’s room for growth, impossible to dispute if someone else is seeing it in me.

[He laughs lightly.]

Sorry, am I embarrassing you? I didn’t mean for this to be an interrogation.

[Ai understands what he's saying, in a way; that he wasn't quite the same as he was the first day their lives clashed with each other. And neither was she. She had wanted to break free and be independent so that her heart could be free to stir and bleed for what it wanted. But even after that happened, she still found herself stuck; you couldn't change if there was no agent for it. Neither of them is the same in so many ways and it makes her heart feel light from knowing they keep changing when they're with each other.

With her cheeks covered, she manages to give a sheepish smile to Connor.]

If it's an interrogation, you're being awfully nice about it.

[determinare]

I can be less than nice in the interrogation room. Sometimes you have to be.

[That was true, at least. But Connor says it all in good humor.]

But since it’s you, I can make an exception.

[He just gives her a little wink, smiling right back.]

The wink was so fast and so sudden Ai has no time to even have a defense for his comeback. She feels her whole body flush with red...]
