[ He was going to say something about the "prettier" thing (pretty???), but then she goes full throttle with the chest comparison, and he seems to deflate somewhat. ]

—I've never had my chest compared to a maiden's chest before. I suppose the world is still capable of surprising.

I thought I'd just clear the air! See, you don't have to be worried while we try and reunite with our hapless partners!

Should I have been worried?

[ A dry little quirk of the lips, though he keeps the tone friendly; his code of chivalry does dictate that he be decent to women, after all. ]

[She walks ahead of him, hands behind her back.]

[Lien turns her head and there's an odd quality to the smile she has on her face.]

I read that in a book once. It stuck with me for some reason, probably because the person I quoted remained nameless.

[They're near the main city now, more quickly than expected; perhaps it's a result of the paths being smaller due to the incompleteness of the world around them.]

[ Anonymous quotations are familiar to him, as are anonymous songs sung by nameless bards and minstrels; Lien's words are vaguely nostalgic, and he closes his eyes between his maneuvering of the empty streets to let that settle in. ]

You and my Master, you both have a tendency towards poetry.

I just read a lot of books. She's got a bigger heart than me though, so I think she'd be a good poet if she put her mind to it!

In any case, whatever the reason, it looks like you both suit each other as Master and Servant. I can tell; Ai's someone who would do her best no matter what responsibility is thrust on her.

As strange as this may seem, coming from an enemy Servant, I swear to you that I'll protect your sister, with my life and my lance.

[ Despite the difficulties the two may have, he can sense that they care about each other— all the more reason for him to stay vigilant, now that his purpose for being here is largely null and void otherwise.

A beat, and he appends: ]

Do you sing?

... Mm. You know what? I'll take it. I need that to hear that as the elder sister after all.

[His declaration... Man, they just don't make guys like this Servant anymore, that's for sure. And for a second, Lien kind of wishes that wasn't so, but what can you do with the changing times and values? As for his question...]

Hm? I'm not bad at it. [And then it clicks.] Oh, you heard her sing, didn't you?

She said that she'd heard most of the songs from you.

[ It's easy conversation, as he turns a corner and makes his way down, down, down a somewhat long-stretching street.

And after a moment of debating whether or not he should, he emphasizes his point by humming a fraction of what he remembers of Ai's song: a few bars of Fly Me To The Moon, the section that would be "fill my heart with song / and let me sing forever more". His voice is a smooth tenor that's not entirely unpleasant, if out of practice for things like singing. ]

[Huh. Lien blinks up at him, wondering what went down for Ai to actually sing in front of someone. Not that she hasn't before, but she must trust him a lot.]

Yeah... when we were taken in, it took us a while to adjust to the world. Music was a comfort and it helped us feel again. At least that hasn't changed even if it sounds different in this age.

[As they go further in...]

Hey, I think I sense them both!

[onoir]

[ He senses the change too, which is why he's not surprised when he turns the corner and sees two figures standing a few houses down: one significantly smaller than the other, but unmistakable. ]

—There they are.

[psychometer]

[In the distance, Ai Thao waves to them and starts making their way over. Lien also waves back sighing with relief.

And then she seems to chuckle about something.]

You know, it's funny... You being partnered up with a person who has, "Ai" in their name.

[onoir]

"Ai"...?

[ Grail knowledge gives him the power to understand things, but knowing the linguistic meaning of each word is out of the question, so he stops and tilts his head, fixing a curious sidelong glance at his walking companion. ]

Is there a specific meaning for it?

[psychometer]

Well, at least in Japanese, it roughly means, "love."

Ironyyyy.

Then the young man who earns her affections will be lucky for it.

[She rolls her eyes, but only has this to reply with.]

It's a little different in our language though. "Beloved" and "gentle." Same, but different, huh?

C'mon, let's catch up with them.

[And as she starts walking towards Ai Thao and Cu, she begins whistling a cheerful melody.]
