[ Lancer pulls up fish with an alarming frequency, and in alarming variety: maybe he can double as a fisherman to bring in some cash on the side. The singing isn't distracting, and after he pulls up his third saury and tosses it into the bucket, he pulls the fishing pole and grips it between his knees to finish off his canned coffee. ]

Mind if I ask a question?

[psychometer]

[Lien looks up from her book and during the time Lancer was making catches, she's already halfway done. Powers or not, she's a fast reader.]

Go ahead. What's up?

[lansaigh]

[ Once he's given permission, he doesn't waste much time in cutting to the chase. ]

Are you satisfied with the current situation? Be as honest as you want about this.

[psychometer]

[The question gives her pause. He has a point. The past week has been more than a firsthand experience of the danger she was going to be in from now on. Lien had made a pact with this Servant in front of her and by doing so, there was the obligation of seeing this conflict through to the end. It's not as if she doesn't know the sense of urgency. But perhaps she would have a higher level of it if she had an actual wish to make. Also, the fact that the fabric of reality was really, really, weak isn't a comforting thought either.

There was a lack of something within her and Lancer's question just reminded her of that, so she frowns, trying to think of an answer.]

... So far, I'm not dead. But that's just a cheap measurement for success isn't it?

[She leans back in her chair, to look up at the sky.]

And if I say I don't know how to feel... That'd be just like before...

[lansaigh]

Huh. I wasn't expecting a complicated answer: it would have been fine if you'd stopped at that first part.

[ "I'm not dead", he means. He repositions himself so that he's holding his fishing rod again, looking into the ocean. His expression is mildly bored, but there's an undercurrrent of alertness, as always. ]

Some people might say that prolonging this war is a stupid choice, but you do what you want, little Master. Might as well enjoy yourself while you do your job, right?

[psychometer]

Well, there's something clearly wrong. I'm with Ai on wanting to see what the hell is up with the world right now, or at least what's going on in this city. The Holy Grail isn't working the way it's supposed to. I wonder if it's capable of granting wishes at all.

[She looks out at the ocean along with him, chin resting on one hand. She murmurs.]

"... There's nothing in you." [Her eyes cloud over as if she just said a curse.]

Someone said that to me, a few years ago. Mean, huh?

[lansaigh]

[ He's about to say something about this entire war being a huge joke, but her second statement is more important, and something he's also been thinking about. As far as he's concerned, Lien's always seemed a little...

...lost. ]

Not very flattering, yeah. [ A tug on his rod, and he pulls up another saury: he throws it back without putting it into the bucket. ]

So? Are they right?

[psychometer]

That's the frightening thing. They probably are.

[Her eyes are focused on her gloved hands now. She hated these things. There's a change in her voice as well; there's not much emotion in it, as if she's just full of resignation.]

You probably noticed already. Half the crap that comes out of my mouth is to rile people up one way or another. [Ah, so she's self-aware.]

Before, I didn't really know how to act. So, acting out seems better than nothing.

[lansaigh]

Is that right. I thought you were just trying to impress me. I like hard-headed women.

[ He laughs, in contrast to her heavier tone. It's always been easier for him to accept things; live life like a storm. ]

If acting out works out for you, why question it, right?

[psychometer]

Ah, so that's your type.

[The more she learns about her Servant and his attitude towards life in general, the more her admiration grows (she won't admit to it yet though). Maybe to someone who had nothing in her, seeing someone who took on everything life had to give was fascinating.]

I try not to. But I did start acting the way I did after that person said that to me.

[She inhales and exhales deeply, shaking her head at herself.]

Fffff. What a joke.

[lansaigh]

's not a bad thing, is it. Take the good with the bad, it's the only thing you're gonna be able to own up to, in the end.

[ A light nudge with his elbow. ]

I don't dislike that about you, little lady. You're always fighting.

[psychometer]

... Geez. When you put it that way, I just wanna hear more words like that.

[She wraps her arms around her knees, tilting her head at Lancer. It's hidden, but there's a smile.]

And if there's a want, I suppose that proves there's something instead of nothing, right?

[lansaigh]

I've never met someone who has nothing that wanted things as much as you, kiddo.

[ A tug on his fishing string, and he pulls up another fish to toss into his bucket. ]

You're still young. Live a little.

[psychometer]

Sure. Whatever you say, Grandpa!

[Okay, back to quipping.]

[lansaigh]

Hah, see if I give you a fish, after I'm done.

[ he's gonna have a bbq and lien is NOT INVITED ]

Well, you keep calling me "kiddo" and "little."

[it's the natural order of things!!!]

Be thankful, Master. I was going to say something, but I held it back.
