... Want me to carry him? It might be awkward with him being a giant, but I'll be able to hold up well enough.
[Iona... It'd be awkward for other reasons...]

[ Iona to the rescue... ]

[She brings a hand up to her mouth and her brown eyes sparkle in mock confusion.]
You called me pretty...!!

[ Claude??? ]
"A beautiful woman".
[ Claude????????? ]

Merci beaucoup! I'll take it!

Well, let's quit dawdling about. Time to go back. First though...
[Iona claps her hands together and a glow of her magical energy appears in her palms. It floats upwards above Gus, Claude, and her and then it expands until the three of them are encased in a see-through bubble.]
There! We're invisible!

He pokes at the barrier with one hand, and then
actually reaches inside one of his coat pockets for a scalpel. ]
...And you're sure this works?

[THE REAL QUESTION OF IMPORTANCE HERE]

I'm a doctor.
[ REAL DOCTORS DON'T DO THIS?? ]

He runs the blade over the length of the bubble, which...unsurprisingly, does nothing. Huh. ]
I suppose things like this don't surprise you anymore.

No— it would be rude for me to ask if you've become desensitized to most things.

[Iona makes her way over to Gus, sitting him up first before attempting to pick him up.]
Things still hurt like hell.
[And with that, she easily picks up Gus in her arms (bridal style!!) without breaking a sweat.]

Don't flirt with a doctor that way, Miss Iona. It's dangerous.
[ HE'S STILL HOLDING THIS SCALPEL??? The Worst.
But aw... Gus is going to smile in his sleep like the huge oversized infant he is. ]
no subject
Don't talk about danger with the 5'4 lady holding a 6'0 man. Your mild sadism won't work on me.
Alright, you do the honors of opening the door now.

But, alright alright. He strolls towards the door and swings it open for her, theatrically (but with infuriatingly perfect manners) sweeps an arm to indicate that she can go first. ]
For you, mademoiselle. Please, do watch your feet.

considering the fact that iona does like being a brute during brawls he's probably not off...Iona, with Gus in her arms, walks outside. The bubble around them ripples as they move forward into 1879 Paris..]
So where are we headed exactly? Like, is there a headquarters for your family? A main house??
no subject
Claude leads, genuinely impressed that yes, they really are invisible. ]
—There's his family mansion, yes. It would be ideal if we could deposit him there; the others are used to him coming and going.

[She falls silent for a moment as she glances down at Gus. He had a strange degree of freedom for someone who held an important position in the city...
(A memory; a 12 year old Iona, pouting at her father who sternly asks her about the sleepover she's invited to. Adult supervision? How late will they be staying up? Will boys be there? Too much junk food is disagreeable to him. Her mother, washing dishes, and shaking her head, smiling at them both...)
-- Yes, they're quite invisible and it seems the bubble around them, unseen as it is, causes people to avoid walking straight into the group so any accidental collisions are nothing to worry about.]
Where do you live, Claude? Not by yourself, right?
no subject
A moment, to consider Iona's question. ]
Mm? Of course I live by myself. Why wouldn't I?
no subject
[Iona quickly gets the idea that it was preferable to him. She wants to remark about how that seems lonely, but decides to keep that to herself. The witch decides to occupy herself by looking around at the mechanical details and clocks that constantly tick. It's all incredibly foreign and fascinating for her.]
All of this... It's all really cool! How long did it take for this technology to develop and who was behind giving Paris this look?
no subject
It's been this way for a long time— since before I was born. The three major families in Paris were responsible for the development and the foundation of mechanizing the city, and the Auberts were one of them.
[ Carefully sidestepping 'we'. ]
The Gaillards and Prevost are the other two, but the Prevost died out a few decades ago.
