That's kind of mundane. [He's quick to make an addendum.] I mean, not in a bad way. It's just, I suppose I would have imagined your brother in a magical kind of business, or in a business with magic. Kind of like you, with the Midnight Grind.
Does he ever swing by here?
no subject
And hey, the Grind's plenty enough magic for me.
[She nods enthusiastically when Michael asks about Sully's visits.]
Mm hm! He can't stay away from Oren's cooking for too long.
no subject
[Implying that he'd like to visit a little more often. This is only his second visit, anyway.]
And who knew a golem could cook so well?
no subject
[It makes her feel really happy inside to hear that. Iona loves having regulars because sometimes she'll have visitors who only visit the cafe, maybe once or twice. It's quite possible a person would never see the Grind again.]
And Oren has 500 years of cooking experience. He's like. A super maid-butler.
[that is the worst buffy-esque word ever, iona's kinda lame like that]
no subject
A super maid-butler? [Now there's a mental image for the decade.] Does that come with the implied sparkles too?
[Should they feel bad for talking about Oren like this?]
no subject
He's got enough sparkle in his eyes. AND hair.
no subject
You said he used to serve your grandmother?
no subject
So he had to get used to me when my grandma told him to help me out instead.
no subject
You make it sound like you two didn't get along. [He finds it hard to imagine someone not being able to get along with someone like Iona.]
no subject
And he's about 500 plus years old for the record.
no subject
He's how old?
((ooc; I finished both Michael's and Morgan's early timeline backgrounds, if you're interested in reading about them!
It's so slow at work today bleh))no subject
Whoa, you okay?
[Careful there Michael, Iona grabs some napkins and pats his back lightly? HOPE THAT HELPS]
Five one hundreds. So 500. So old. REALLY old.
He'll probably talk to you soon if you keep visiting.
no subject
[IT HELPS A LITTLE! Or at least, it seems to. Either way, he stops coughing and clears his throat.]
Thanks. And yeah. That's... really, really old. [He realizes something, his brows knitting together in confusion.] Wait, so... Okay, you can tell me if this is a rude question to ask, but just how old is your grandmother?
no subject
[And Iona answers easily enough in a easy going tone of voice.]
400. Give or take of course.
no subject
Four hundred? [Before his brain can filter his mouth, he blurts out:] How old are you?
((ooc; do iiiiiit, I wanna read iiiiit))
no subject
I mentioned I was 23. And my brother's hitting 30.
[She sips her coffee, hiding her amusement at his reactions.]
My grandma had my dad late in life and same goes for my parents. We're babies compared to most witches and warlocks that are around.
no subject
So she really was just a couple of years younger than him. But that leads to another question:]
So does that mean that you and your brother can live to be 400 plus too? That's [crazy!] such a long time. You'll have... experienced so much by then.
no subject
... You're right. We're almost at the point where we'll stop aging. Or it'll just be a very slow process.
[Iona's looking into her coffee cup before looking at Michael again. She doesn't want him to think she's avoiding him.]
I don't think it's fully hit me yet though.
[The gravity, if anything, is terrifying.]
no subject
He searches for something to say, trying to read her expression. An "I'm sorry" didn't feel like enough. He hesitates, then responds, his tone low.]
It's... um, scary, isn't it? [He idly fiddles with his napkin, finding the right words.] What's even more frightening is that I think I can relate.
[He clears his throat a little again. This isn't something he intended to talk about, but it serves him right for making her uncomfortable.] You know, because of my powers, I can sense the flow of time. I'm kind of like a living atomic clock, but on a bigger scale. [A beat.] After my powers... activated, I could feel there was something... off about myself. Like time isn't moving for me the way it should. It's way too slow.
[He's compared pictures of when he was 20 to how he looks now. Five years at a young age were hard to judge with finality, but he was pretty sure that he didn't look as different as he should have. It scared him.]
I don't know if it's the same as being a witch or warlock, but I think I can relate. It's scary. People are going to notice, eventually, and then what do I tell them? What happens when everyone around me gets older because time isn't moving correctly for my own body?
[What happens if all he can do is watch as he loses all the people he loves to the flow of time? That's the real question.]
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I can understand about not being able to wrap your head around it.
no subject
His fears and doubts are similar to hers. What would the future be like when people around them that couldn't live as long begin to fade away? How would they turn out? Berna never worried about such things for a while because Oren was her faithful never changing companion. But even her strong grandmother had to confront the reality which was the uncertainty of their existences.]
... Hey, Michael? I think there's one thing you can do.
no subject
What's that?
no subject
[(She's so jealous he still has his.)]
... In the meanwhile, we can be friends. So even though it looks like won't change outside, it'll be more bearable if we deal with other changes inside. Does that sound okay?
no subject
Of course that sounds okay. [He offers a little smile.] I already consider you a friend, after all. [And maybe he needs someone who can relate so he can deal with this a bit better.]
no subject
Same!
You are gonna get SO much good drinks from visiting me.
no subject
((ooc; will do!))
