Mm. That's right... It can't last long...

[Arcueid looks up at the ceiling, lost in her own thoughts again.]

[...

Sometimes he honestly can't decide if she's contemplative or just... air-headed. Noct looks towards the door, thinking about just leaving, but finally decides to offer:]

...You all right, there?

... Mm hm!

[His voice brings her back and she looks over at Noctis, smiling.]

I'm fine! I was just thinking about how outlandish this all was. But then it made me happy! I'm happy that I get to be surprised like this every now and then.

[When she goes back to sleep on her throne, will she dream of this? Will it fade away, just a blip of strange happenings during the time she's awake? Who knows.

But for Arcueid Brunestud, such whimsical thoughts are fun to think about.]

[He's quiet for a moment, uncertain what to say. He hopes he doesn't look like an idiot, standing here with an arm full of donuts.]

Doesn't take much to make you happy, does it? Most people would find this whole thing inconvenient.

[What a strange girl, he thinks to himself, for the umpteenth time today.]

[Take an idiot to know an idiot... Thankfully, Arcueid is kind of one...]

In a way it is. I wouldn't know how to explain you for one thing and you're also kind of hard to pin down personality wise...

[He's just a kid Arc, please]

But... This hasn't happened to me before. So when I think of it that way, it makes the moment even more precious an fascinating, don't you think?

[A kid? He's twenty, thank you very much!!

But... precious and fascinating? Geez, how can she use words like that so casually? At best, Noct feels bad for being the one to inconvenience her; he certainly didn't think of it in those terms.

Now he's just even more confused on how to feel. He'd rub at the back of his neck if he didn't have donuts in his hands.]

I... guess that's one way to put it. [Maybe he is too young to understand, but he thinks that perhaps his own perception is skewed. If you're 800 years old, maybe you come to appreciate the people passing in and out of your life more often.]

But don't make me sound more complex than I am. I'm pretty straightforward.

Yeah, that I can tell! You're not afraid to speak your mind to a vampire that tore down a toxic monster.

[All of her words come easily to her as if she doesn't really think about them or the consequences. Or rather, they simply sound like they make the most sense.

Weirdo.]

Not like you've given me a reason to.

[He gives her a crooked little smile.]

Yet.

[She returns his smile with a grin before looking out the window at the setting sun.]

... It's getting dark soon. I should head out.

...All right. [He was going to ask what she's up to, but then decides that he's probably bothered her with enough questions for the day. Noctis merely nods.] I'll see you around.

[It's an inadvertent lie. When she leaves, he doesn't plan on seeing her again -- it isn't out of spite or ingratitude. (He would thank her again for her courtesies, if he were the type.) But rather, he wasn't lying when he said he had important things to get done at home, and that he needed to return as soon as possible.

There was no way he was planning on sitting by idly.]

[And so when darkness falls, Noctis sneaks out, around the back of the apartment and into a nearby alleyway. It's dimly lit, but most importantly it's barren. It's a place he can practice his warp magic, without being interrupted.

Or so he thinks.

When he calls forth his Engine Blade, throwing it forward in a straight line and warping to it, his shoulder screams at him. He catches the blade and falls to his knees, the momentum making him skid forward a full foot before stopping. Noct grimaces, pulling himself up to his feet by leaning on his sword, stuck in the ground.]

Dammit...

[Arcueid couldn't say she was surprised when Noctis left. She just wished that he would have told her that he was leaving in the first place. But while she was patrolling on the rooftops and she saw Noctis leave, the vampire did not utter a word or step forward to stop him. Why would she? If he wants to find a way home, he had the right to try and find a method on his own.

She's squatting down, resting her face in her hands as she watches him materialize his weapon and doing his damned best to perform some sort of magic, maybe the same kind that caused him to end up in this world in the first place. Arc sighs. ]

He's working really hard... Shame really.

[And there's the matter of his injury too. The scent from the wound remains and if he kept overworking it...]

... Like wounded prey...

[Her red eyes narrow.]

Not good. Not good for him at all.

[They were going to smell his blood. They would emerge from the shadows to feed, to prolong their pathetic existence. And she would be there to kill them all.

Through the alleyways a haggard looking man and woman stumble towards Noctis. Once glance at them and it's easy to tell that they're not all together. They look sickly and ghoul like. There's no color to their skin and they walk towards the scent of blood.]

[Noctis only notices the shadowy silhouettes coming down the alleyway because he's straightening, trying to catch his breath from overexerting himself in such a short period of time. He frowns, narrowing his eyes. It looked like... a man and a woman, though there was something off about their gait.

The young King chews at his lower lip, deciding that using his magic for now was out of the question if there were potential witnesses around. As the man and woman continue to stumble in what seems to be his direction, he feels a wave of uncertainty wash over him -- and a strange anxiety.]

Uh... hello? [Did they need something?]

[For a few seconds all seems normal, if unsettling.

And then the man opens up his mouth baring incredibly unfriendly and incredibly sharp teeth. Both of their pupils grow smaller and they let out an unsettling groans and moans making them less human than before.

It's the woman who leaps for him first aiming straight for his wounded shoulder.

Arcueid stands up. She'll jump down soon as soon as she gets her chance.]

[And it's those teeth that set Noctis on edge; the moans are inhuman as well, and he suddenly tenses, knowing that these are no ordinary man and woman.

The woman leaps for him, but thankfully his training kicks in. He phases through the attack with the same magic as what drives him to teleport to his weapons; he leaves a blue ghost of a shell lingering behind him as he literally dodges through the attack.

He scuffles back, his sword reappearing in his hand in a flash of blue moments later.]

What the hell-!?

[The vampiric man shuffles behind Noctis with shocking swiftness. His maw is hovering closely to his shoulder, the smell of blood driving him even more mad than before.

And then his head is torn off.

Arcueid, looking displeased holds the dismembered head in one palm and kicks aside the headless body so that it's off of Noctis.]

... Just in time. Fortune shines on you again, doesn't it?

[Noctis whirls around on his heels, sword at ready--

Only to be met with the gruesome sight of Arcrueid tearing off the head of one of his assailants. His eyes widen in fear at first, and then narrow in defensiveness. The headless body is kicked away from him.]

What are you- What was that thing?!

[And there's still another to contend with, it appears.]

A vampire.

[The head in her hand is crushed, making a sickening crunching noise and she drops it on the ground.]

The kind that needs blood to survive. Remember what I explained to you not too long ago? Or rather, this is more of a leftover I've had to clean up after its master was killed.

More importantly...

[The woman vampire, although comprehending the danger in front of her, is more hungry and is certainly past the point of rational thought. It attempts to leap for Noctis...]

[But Arcueid is faster and instead grabs the woman by the throat and throws her to the ground creating such an impact that a crater is created beneath them.

Arcueid turns to Noctis, keeping a foot on top of the vampire beneath her and she... Huffily puts her hands on her hips, glaring at Noctis not so much with scorn, but with petulance and irritation.]

You should have waited and told me you were going to leave Noctis! Idiot!! I wouldn't have stopped you, but I would have warned you about the dangers in the alleyways!!

[Um please give him a second as he computes all of this in his head. It's not every day he sees someone literally make a crater in the ground with how hard they toss someone else into it.]

You... [Wait a second, is she angry at him?] I- [Wow, he feels like a little kid being scolded by his parents.] I didn't know if you would have stopped me or not. It didn't matter anyway, I had to try.

[Arcueid is clearly grumbling and walks over to Noctis...

To ruffle his hair angrily.]

I help you and it makes you think I'm gonna imprison you instead?!

Hey- [He steps back, trying to move her hand away. It's too late, though, because his hair is all mussed up now.]

That's not what I meant. ...I didn't want you worrying.

[His words seem to placate her if only enough to drop her hand from ruffling his hair.]

Nn. But that turned out pointless. I invested a lot of time in you already so of course I'd worry!

[Arcueid is able to understand her reactions and emotions a little better because of the time spent with Shiki Tohno, but she's not sure why she's specifically mad in this instance (because Noctis is a new person and she simply doesn't talk to a lot of people outside of a small circle).]

[He frowns, casting his gaze to the side.]

I've already been too much of a burden. I was planning on getting out of your hair as soon as possible.

[He looks at his hand in frustration.] But my magic... it's not bringing me back.

Then rest! Idiot!

[arc you called him an idiot, twice]

Make sure your shoulder is healed... Look, I'll even find a doctor for you to make sure it can patch up properly and pay them not to say anything. I have enough money to make sure of that.

Okay, okay... you don't have to keep calling me an idiot. Geez.

[He sighs. She has a point, after all.]

Then I'll just owe you even more.
