[It was another night in the town of Blackgale, with no moon in sight to set the dark sky aglow amid the blanket of stars. The lack of moonlight, however, was not stopping the local (and only) witch, Amelia Steinbeck, from doing a much needed patrol for this particular night. After all, when a demon from the darkest realm from who knows where comes to ones doorstep with the intention of murder, there's probably others lurking around.

That wasn't going to do, not at all.


Of course, she had to be at school soon for an early morning meeting... But hey, it's high school and she was always on time no matter what, thanks to magic. And thus, Amelia began to wander around in the streets, with a green flame flickering in one hand-- only visible to her, other magic users, and a magnet for more demons.

I'm taking the day off. I called in a substitute and had a lesson plan all prepared.

[Takes another gulp of coffee] I'm working on enchanting some items for a friend and I need to do some maintenance on the barriers for my house.

After what the demon from your world did, I'm going to have to go the tedious route and extend said barrier to my garden.

Do all demons from your world do that? Use this 'hellfire' I mean.

Only some of the more powerful ones. Hellfire isn't something just anybody gets to toss around.

Hm. Any other properties I should know about?

[spellbent]

It cuts through most magical defenses like a hot knife through butter. And if you get caught, "stop, drop and roll" won't do you any good. You get to spend the rest of your short like kicking and screaming.

[She summons a green flame of her magic so it can swirl idly in her hands] Still, I hurt it and it didn't react well to my abilities.

I don't think it's used to your type of magic, for one. I get the feeling you're a lot more powerful than I've even seen, also.

In this world, while we don't specialize like you would, there are clear limits to one's inner magic reserves. Some users won't have enough magic or skill in themselves to envision what they want to summon or cast. It makes doing the impossible, well frankly less possible. You can imagine fixing your burnt garden and cast your magic on it, but you may have just taken out all the flowers instead of actually restoring them.

But, you're correct about me. You've heard my title, 'Emerald Witch.' A witch or wizard with a title is usually one with substantial abilities or they've contributed to the magic commune in some meaningful way. Very rarely is a title given out.

[ he gives her a lopsided smile, and gets to his feet ]

In any case, I'm confident in your ability to handle yourself. I'm going to take a look around and see what I can do about some clothes. I won't be more than a couple of hours.
