[It was another night in the town of Blackgale, with no moon in sight to set the dark sky aglow amid the blanket of stars. The lack of moonlight, however, was not stopping the local (and only) witch, Amelia Steinbeck, from doing a much needed patrol for this particular night. After all, when a demon from the darkest realm from who knows where comes to ones doorstep with the intention of murder, there's probably others lurking around.

That wasn't going to do, not at all.


Of course, she had to be at school soon for an early morning meeting... But hey, it's high school and she was always on time no matter what, thanks to magic. And thus, Amelia began to wander around in the streets, with a green flame flickering in one hand-- only visible to her, other magic users, and a magnet for more demons.

Come at her bros.]

[The binding around the wraith becomes tighter. Dusky readjusts herself on her perch since Amelia did quite a bit of moving there.

As for Jacob's question...]

California.

[wizardcop]

... Right.

[ he really has further questions, but he has things to do. Once the wraith is close enough, he works his magic and it vanishes. ]

Mind helping me nab the rest of them?

[recluserose]

[Something jumps out from behind her, but that wraith is quickly tied up as Amelia quickly and casually points her arm behind her to bind it]

I thought you'd never ask Mr. Randall.

[wizardcop]

[ he's all business now, and turns to Fedora, who's watching Amelia with something like fascination ] Fedora, flush them out.

[ Fedora bounds into the trees, trailing thick, black smoke in his wake. Jacob focuses his attention on Amelia's captive wraith, sketching out his spell and sending it on ]

[She walks down a path a bit further away from Jacob and Fedora, threads of her magic spin around her finger as it slithers through the trees. It captures another wraith and then separating into another thread to capture a second. Amelia's doing her best to use small amounts of her power and keeping her eyes sharp for any more enemies]

I think that may be all of them. I can't see any more ahead from where I'm standing.

[wizardcop]

[ Jacob follows her, keeping an ear out for Fedora. As soon as she snags on and gets it in range, he quickly uses his magic on it. ]

Let's give Fedora a moment.

[recluserose]

You know, when I came to town I wasn't expecting to meet a wizard with a wolf named after a hat.

[wizardcop]

It was not my most creative moment, to be honest.

[ Speaking of Fedora, a wraith comes streaking up the path, Fedora hot on its proverbial heels. A sudden pounce and he has the creature pinned. Jacob casts his spell one last time. ]

Is that all?

[ Fedora snorts, nodding ]

[recluserose]

It's sort of endearing actually. [And after the last wraith is gone Amelia's own magic disperses. She walks up to Fedora and squats down to the wolf's level. Dusky looks intrigued as well, but wary since they're so close.]

He's much bigger than a regular wolf too...

[wizardcop]

[ Fedora stares at her, something knowing in his gaze. He can smell who you've been with, and he knows Warren well.

The look passes after a moment, though, and his tongue lolls out of his mouth as his tail begins to wag. He tries to nudge the kitten on Amelia's shoulder with his nose ]

... Don't torment the kitten, Fedora.

[recluserose]

[Amelia blinks back at Fedora feeling a bit uneasy. Uneasy as if she was caught doing something that isn't allowed.

Dusky bats back at Fedora with her paw, albeit playfully.]

Hehe! [A short glance at her kitten and then back on Fedora]

He seems friendly enough when the occasion calls for it. Dusky's usually more frightened in the presence of canines.

[wizardcop]

He acts more like a dog than a wolf most of the time.

[ blink blink ] Did your cat just giggle?

[recluserose]

[SILENCE. And Dusky just wrinkles her nose and yawns]

Nya.

[wizardcop]

[ Jacob just chuckles ]

I have a wolf living in my hat- if your cat talks, that's hardly the strangest thing I've seen.

[recluserose]

Oh! Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, does this mean I can talk now Miss Amelia? I've been waitin' FOREVER. And this human is a wizard so I don't see why I can't talk to him. Hello! I'm Dusky! I thought your wolf was scary, but he's seems so very nice! Are there any other cats that talk here mister?

[Amelia is rubbing her forehead with one palm letting out a large sigh] She talks too much. [That is only partially why she didn't want her to talk and we all know why.]

[wizardcop]

Goodness.

[ another laugh, and he reaches over, offering Dusky a new arm to climb on ]

You're the only talking cat I've seen, little one, but I believe you make up for their silence on your own.

[recluserose]

Dusky I think--

[Dusky gladly jumps onto Jacob's arm and onto his shoulder]

I'm the best talker there is! I wish I can talk more, but Miss Amelia says that the way I'm goin, I might talk her head off!

And you'll talk off his head as well if you keep your voice at the volume it is.

But Miss Ameeeeelliiiiiia. He's so nice! Can't I talk to him at least a little bit more?

Somehow, I think you've been running your mouth without the intention of stopping in the first place.

[wizardcop]

[ he reaches up to pet Dusky ]

It's fine, Miss Steinbeck. I don't mind.

[recluserose]

I hope you have a lot of patience then.

Hehe. See, see? He doesn't mind at all! [She looks down at Fedora]

Can the wolf talk too? Or is he just being told to be quiet like me? Oh, if he talks I want to ask him if he can tell the other dogs to stop chasing us cats up trees!

[wizardcop]

More than I used to.

[ He turns to the cat ] He doesn't, I'm afraid. Things would be so much easier if he did.

[recluserose]

He stays in the fedora most of the time then?

Maybe *I* can teach him how to talk! Momma says it's never too late to learn! Well, then again I think that's wrong cause there's a lot of dumber cats who don't know how to say a word at ALL--

[wizardcop]

When I'm around town, he does. He has free range of my apartment, though.

[ Fedora whuffs, amused. No kitty, you can't teach him to talk. ]

I think if he could learn, he would have by now. He used to be partnered with my grandfather.

[recluserose]

[Combing through her mind about what she may have heard about Jacob's grandfather-- Ah. Warren's mentor. Hm. Interesting, interesting indeed. And of course never gonna say a thiiing.]

Is that why he's loyal to you? Because you're his relation?

[wizardcop]

To be honest, I have no idea.

[recluserose]

[She kneels down again and... Hesitantly holds out a hand to see if Fedora will let her pet him 8|;;]
