[It was another night in the town of Blackgale, with no moon in sight to set the dark sky aglow amid the blanket of stars. The lack of moonlight, however, was not stopping the local (and only) witch, Amelia Steinbeck, from doing a much needed patrol for this particular night. After all, when a demon from the darkest realm from who knows where comes to ones doorstep with the intention of murder, there's probably others lurking around.

That wasn't going to do, not at all.


Of course, she had to be at school soon for an early morning meeting... But hey, it's high school and she was always on time no matter what, thanks to magic. And thus, Amelia began to wander around in the streets, with a green flame flickering in one hand-- only visible to her, other magic users, and a magnet for more demons.

How did your errands go?

[spellbent]

They went well. How about your research?

[recluserose]

As well as sticking one's nose into books can go. But it was interesting to read about specialized magic as opposed to books that give you specific spells to focus liberal magic on.

[spellbent]

I guess that wold be quite the difference.

Any questions?

[recluserose]

Not yet. I do... Want to read about certain magical artifacts though.

[She pauses looking as if she wants to ask something, but also wanting to decide against it-- Ah, what the hell]

Well, there is one. Are there any objects called 'Catalysts' in this world?

[spellbent]

Catalysts? There are certain things that can be considered catalysts for complex or powerful spells, I suppose, though they're usually not pretty.

[recluserose]

So there's 'catalysts' for said spells, not necessarily to store anything within them. Hm. [Tapping her cheek as a thinking gesture, a bit lost in thought]

[spellbent]

Do you have something similar in your world?

[recluserose]

[She nods] Catalysts are enchanted objects that can come in many forms. Their main function is to store small amounts of magic and make it more potent as years pass. Of course not just any object can be one. Magic itself is difficult to contain in its pure form and sometimes it'll just break out of the object that it's in due to growing too quickly in strength.

There's very few effective items that can be true Catalysts. The most sought after are the ones that can last the longest and bring the magic stored within it to its highest potential.

[spellbent]

... And what does one do with stored magic?

[recluserose]

It's taken of course. Absorb it into the body and your magical power increases. How much it increases depends on how long it's been in a Catalyst.

But it's not a solid method. Like I mentioned, magic sometimes escapes the object and overpowers it making it useless. And even if you were to use one with the intent of creating potent magic to take for yourself, it's a waiting game never mind that you have all the time in the world compared to normal humans.

[spellbent]

Interesting. I don't suppose you have any books on the subject?

[recluserose]

Not at the moment no.

[spellbent]

In general, though, do you?

[recluserose]

[She gives him a look]

[spellbent]

What?

[recluserose]

Nothing.

[Obviously there's something. Crossing her arms and turning around]

I only have books that talk about the subject, not about how to make one.

[spellbent]

That's a shame. I would've liked to see if the effect could somehow be replicated with my own magic.

[recluserose]

[She rolls her eyes. And she remembers Jacob's magic, how it wasn't destructive-- it laid creatures to rest, but it never hurt them it seemed]

Your specialization... You mentioned you could disintegrate things. I also remember you knocked back that demon with your magic...?

[spellbent]

Yes. I specialize in destructive magic. If you can think of a way to break something, I can probably do it.

[recluserose]

... [She turns to the side silent a bit clasping her hands together. She opens them to reveal a white flower looking a bit lost in thought]

And that was your choice?

[spellbent]

It's useful.

[recluserose]

[Crushing the flower in her fist sighing]

You must have led a color full life then with that kind of magic.

[spellbent]

You don't know the half of it.

[recluserose]

Oh? Care to tell me about a small snippet from said colorful life?
