[ He doesn't make the association with her powers and her eyes, which might clue her in to his sightlessness, maybe not. He's not exactly giving her much to go with, after all.
Walking up the stairs to his room, he guides Fujino up, up, until there's a jingle of keys and an unmistakable sound of a door swinging open. ]
You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. Come inside.
[ Again, giving her the luxury of secrecy if she wants it. ]
no subject
[She pauses as she waits for him to open the door, listening to the motions carefully and entering inside when he gives the okay.]
And you helped me. I think I can tell you that much.
no subject
[ He says with a laugh, because he doesn't quite agree that she owes him any sort of explanation aside from what he needs to know for the safety of his city— her business is her business. Maybe he's just a cagey person and he's projecting, but these things are important to him.
He leads her through the familiar space of his apartment, towards his bedroom. The couch is fine for him. ]
I just did what I needed to do.

[It's kind of a foreign concept to her really, actually helping others who were in trouble and in pain. Perhaps it's because she was so preoccupied in the past with her... Lack of it. The lack of pain closed her off to even her close friends.
She's quiet before remarking under her breath...]
It must hurt. A lot.
no subject
Long enough. You make it sound more glamorous than it is, really.
[ He smiles to himself as he starts peeling his mask and shirt off, winces as the fabric clings to the cuts he's gotten over the course of the night. ]
As for hurting, well. It comes with the territory.
no subject
[There's something very human about it at least to her. Wanting to help others and put yourself through such danger meant that there was empathy and an understanding of the hurt. Her grasp on such sensations came a little too late.
Fujino carefully seats herself on the bed, feeling the material between her fingers. Huh. Silk sheets.]
At least you didn't get shot. That was what worried me the most.
[And the reason why she decided to activate her Eyes in the first place. This man was already dealing with enough as it is back there.]
no subject
[ He's of the opinion that, of the two of them? She was the one in real danger. They wouldn't have bothered killing him if it came down to it, but Fujino probably wouldn't have been so lucky— he knows remorselessness, even if he can't see expressions, strictly speaking.
Technically, he can tell that she isn't injured, but he feels the need to say this anyway, just to clear the air: ] If you're hurt, I can patch you up. But really, you should've left the recklessness to me.
no subject
... I may not seem like it, but I'm plenty reckless myself.
[It's a bit of an understatement when it comes to her. She assumes she's facing him so she faces forward and tilts her head questioningly.]
Is there something I could call you by? Or will you be a stranger even when we part?
no subject
—"Daredevil".
[ There's a bit of internal groaning on his part. ]
I promise I didn't come up with it. I've got the press to thank for that one. [ taking a seat on the other edge of the bed, just to give her a clue as to where he is right now. ]
no subject
Well! It says more than enough, doesn't it? Only a daredevil would take on more than one person all by himself.
no subject
[ Which is a sentiment he's sure many people feel about him, not that he has any right to complain. Or would refute, really.
He mirrors the chuckle, lets his voice lift from the low gravel of his vigilante persona into something more "Matt Murdock". ]
no subject
... Admittedly, I suppose the thought of helping others by putting myself in danger is... Foreign? That's somewhat of an exaggeration.
[A beat and she turns her head towards what she can only assume is another wall (maybe that's where the window is, maybe). She sounds wistful.]
I always focused on being normal.
no subject
[ His tone softens as he decides to set his own issues aside. ]
There's nothing wrong with that, by the way. Normal.
no subject
It took me a long time to actually realize what that was. "Normal," I mean.
[Her fingers grip her long skirt as if demonstrating some sort of inner conflict. There's so few people she's been able to talk to about these sorts of thoughts that plagued her mind. But he knows her power now and he rescued her. And as long as these words don't leave this apartment...]
Even before my eyesight worsened, there was always something lacking; sensations I couldn't quite grasp.
no subject
He shifts on the bed, recalling that the only other person he's ever met with a 'gift' like his own is Stick, and see where that particular relationship's gone. ]
Something in you that you have a hard time adjusting to. I understand.
no subject
... You know, I was a little happy when you asked if I was hurt. Before, I wouldn't have been able to answer a question like that.
no subject
Because you didn't want to answer truthfully, or because you didn't know?
no subject
[There's a skip in her heartbeat, the kind that occurs when one has to admit some sort of truth they've been withholding, the kind that takes effort to confess.]
I used to be insensitive to pain.
no subject
Used to be.
[ And that statement is maybe for his own benefit as much as it is for hers, and he reaches out to sweep a section of Fujino's hair over her shoulder. ]
You aren't now.
no subject
I'm not quite so numb anymore.
[Fujino is absolutely still as this "Daredevil" gently moves her hair for her. One would think that someone so adept at such violence wouldn't be so soft spoken, but here he was, quietly listening to a person like her. What an odd contrast from what happened not too long ago, she thinks as she relaxes her shoulders slightly.]
I feel like I'm an actual person now.
no subject
[ He laughs about it, not because he's taking her words lightly, but because it's the only thing he can think of to do and say without revealing too much about himself— should he? ]
no subject
[She smiles warmly at the memory from junior high. Fujino still wonders to this day whether Senpai remembers that day or not.]
It sounds so simple doesn't it?
no subject
[ Stick comes to mind, but Stick is...Stick, and he knows that there are some rulers that are best used as a reference, not as an actual instrument for measuring.
He rolls around to his point after a moment of consideration. ]
What's important is that you can be honest with yourself.
no subject
Honest with yourself, that is.
