I can't be the only one. I'm only one person in a ship of thousands after all.

You've got me there. I guess a little vertigo might be preferable to getting too lost in one's concerns.

Hawke, was it??
[She turns her attention back to the stars. Maybe on each of them, there was a little concentrated world? It's a fine thought.]
If you're going to linger, tell me about where you're from.

[He glances down at her when she makes her request, sees she's not looking at him, and smiles a bit, before returning his own attention to the stars.]
There's not much to tell. Ferelden has a reputation for being covered in mud and smelling like dog. I will concede that the former is mostly true, but I'm not sure about the latter. I moved to the Free Marches with my family about eight years ago, and I really don't think it's any less brown there than in Ferelden. I never noticed any dog smell there either, though Marchers don't seem to care for dogs as much as Fereldens. If it smells like anything, I'd say it has the faint but distinct odor of despair and bad temper.
no subject
And I take it that you've kept your good temper from this "Ferelden" despite the pervading odor of the Free Marches bad one?
no subject
[He sees your smile there, Sparks]
no subject
Bad temper is a perfect description of some kingdoms from where I'm from.

[Bitterblue stands up and sighs, leaning against the wall.]
But nothing changes if you keep thinking the same things over and over.

[Though the main lady who might have benefited from it is dead. Welp.]

Probably not. They're all far too set in their ways.
People, honestly.

[She really does sound interested; about the way things worked in other places, the whos, whats, and the whys. Everything was interesting because she feels like she can learn something to apply to her own kingdom.]

[She murmurs this mostly to herself.]
I see what you mean though. You can't make a lid on something that is going to eventually going to overflow. It doesn't seem like the most effective policy.

So what's a Graceling? Is that something I can ask about?
no subject
I suppose you could say they're like mages, but most Gracelings are different from one another. Each is Graced with a different ability ranging from normal to dangerous. And on the continent I'm from... [She points at her eyes]
You can tell if someone is Graced by their eyes. Gracelings have different colored ones.

There are Graces that are of the mind as well. Those... most people tend to be wary of obviously.
no subject
Are "Graces" caused by something? Or do they just happen?
no subject
They just are. [Her father was a Graceling, but she didn't inherit anything from him (thank god).]
In any case, only two of the seven kingdoms give their resident Gracelings rights instead of having the ruler "own" them. It's a start.

[And disturbing. What is with non-magical people, seriously??]
Although two is better than none, I suppose.
