[There are more noises, as if there's something hiding in the shadows and passing by them.]

[ His voice fades out when he notices the flicker of movement, and instinctively his right hand moves to his holstered gun. ]
... Call me paranoid, Lieutenant, but I don't think we're alone in here.
no subject
[It seems like a day for interruptions because as if on cue, the dome shaped ceiling of the ballroom lights up in a rather unique way. It's probably some sort of old holographic technology, but it gives the illusion of staring up into a very starry sky. The fake stars twinkle and various colors contrast against the dark blue of the fake space.]
... Whoa.
[Abbie may not be dazzled by Star-Lord, but this display creates wonder in her eyes.]
no subject
Welp. I'm suitably impressed.
no subject
You like it too? I thought a view like this wouldn't be a big deal to someone like you, not after all these years away from Earth.
no subject
Just meant it was good tech, is all.
no subject
[She circles the room, still staring up at the "sky."]
You can't get a starry sky like this over there.
no subject
[ He looks up again, and a small smile tugs at the corner of his mouth. His voice is a little soft. ] Back in Missouri, the sky was almost as clear as this. When I was a kid, Mom and I used to lie in the grass and make up constellations.
no subject
[Oh no, feelings about family. It's hitting the soft spot in Abbie's heart and it's bittersweet and painful. Did she and Jenny ever look up at the sky? She can't quite recall for some reason because everything went wrong too early in their lives.
She lets out a heavy sigh, glancing the other way.]
It was just me and my younger sister back then. We... Did our best with what we had at the time.
no subject
Hey, well, you do what you can, right? That's all anyone can really expect.
[ He hesitates, then, ] Your sister... is she--? [ He may or may not think she's passed away. ]
no subject
Jenny's doing fine. She just moved in with me recently so we're getting used to living with each other again even if I'm usually on duty with my job.
no subject
So it worked out in the end. That's great. And she's good with the Ghostbuster thing?
no subject
Although, now that I think about it, she's a little bit like you. Goes around the globe, gathering artifacts, having outlaw tendencies, and kicking ass.
And hopefully she's got better flirting game than you.
[Yeah, she's still on about that so what]
no subject
Oh, that stings. You've hurt me in my heart-place. Swear to God, I'm gonna make you pay for damages, Lieutenant.
no subject
[And she starts off to go in one direction in order to look for an exit, but then all of a sudden there's a rumbling sound.
There's something big and it's coming at the both of them, FAST.]
no subject
So when there's movement and an obvious threat in a place that's meant to be abandoned, Peter will shoot first and ask questions later, which is why his Element gun is in his hand, and he's firing bolts of electricity with impunity. ]

no subject
[ He's firing more shots at the worm -- fire, this time, because fire is an excellent option for dealing with just about anything -- but the thing just unleashes another ugly howl, more angry than hurt.
So naturally, when Peter speaks, his words are rushed and clipped, and he's starting to take a few steps back--]
Hey, so remember how you mentioned that running thing, and I was like, "Wow, Lieutenant, that's kinda lame"? Starting to seem like a great idea now.
no subject
Good, glad we're on the same page! We're running where that thing came from and hopefully the teleporter it came through will lead us to a place with more hiding places!
no subject
-- but then her words finally register in his mind. ]
Wait, you want us to run toward that thing? Are you nuts?!
no subject
You think we got time to look for another exit?! GO!!!
no subject
-- and for a moment, Peter can't quite tamp down the unsettling feeling that he might just be bait, because it wouldn't be the first time someone's tried "use the tasty Terran as a distraction" with him --
But the feeling is gone when Peter is forced to duck and slide to avoid having his head taken off by the worm's tail. He stops just short of the wall and rises on a knee to aim his gun at the creature. ]
Clear!
no subject
[Abbie's small and fast so she's sprinting towards the wall. The worm is close behind, almost TOO close, but another quick idea flashes through her head. As she runs, she zig zags, trying to make it dizzy. It seems to work and she has to dodge roll in order for the worm's jaws not to collide with her into another wall.
The lieutenant finally makes it over to Quill breathing hard.]
You ready?
no subject
Then, it charges. ]
Oh, shit--
[ Peter holsters his gun and grabs Abbie by the elbow. He flings himself bodily through the magic portal or teleporter or whatever-the-fuck-it-actually-is, and he hopes against hope that he's not slamming himself into a wall, because that'd be embarrassing as hell.
Luckily, it lets them through into what appears to be a library.
He's out of breath when he asks, ] We good? Any limbs missing?
no subject
Still alive. Not dead. All in all, doing good.
[Abbie puts her hands on her knees and straightens up, looking at their new surroundings.]
A library?? Looks like a place they'd put a datacube, or whatever kind of information in here.
