While he mulls over this, Lancer clears his plate, settles back, and orders hot tea for the both of them in completely native Japanese, which the waiter looks mildly surprised by. ]
Got caught up in mage business?
no subject
Don't 'member.
[She swallows and blinks at the hot tea, wrapping her gloved hands around the warm cup.]
It took a long time for someone to come though. [There's a pause and she exhales heavily, taking a long drink of tea.]
We'll make it quick. Promise.

[ If there's anything shady going on, he means. If this is her way of dealing with her past, well; he's not averse to helping. ]
If you're not gonna eat that last piece, I'm taking it.

[If there even is a next time. But Lien doesn't want to think that far ahead into the future, or at least the future where she won't be sharing her time with this Heroic Spirit anymore. One thing at a time, please.]
[Nighttime at the construction area in the other part of the city is eerily empty, making it easy for Lien to bypass most of the tape offed areas or ignoring them altogether. One glove is off (her left hand; she's keeping her Command Spells hidden just in case) and every so often, she kneels down to graze the ground with her fingers.]
Ugh. Working with just flashes of memory is hard.
no subject
Brows furrowed, he scuffs the ground with his new shoes. ]
We're definitely headed in the right direction. The air smells rancid.
no subject
Good dog.Lien nods, pleased and stands up.]That's good to hear! Glad to know that our trail's just getting warmer.
[From what she could "see" and mulling it over in her own mind, Lien manages to piece together something. The children were going home in this direction; they were feeling fatigued before, but it was worse in this area and further up ahead... They couldn't have gone that far, not unless the perpetrator(s) were hidden in plain sight.]
Mmmmmm. [She taps her forehead before deciding on another direction.]
There's an office building that was getting a makeover a little further up ahead. I bet the police already checked and found nothing, or if our kidnappers were using different tricks, redirected them instead. Let's go there.

It's probably a Bounded Field, if anything. Smart for keeping civilians out, but stupid as hell against people who can sense them.
no subject
no subject
That depends on what they're keeping out, stupid.
[ hairruffle. ]
no subject
Well, we're gonna have to break in either way so... Brute forcing it is then!
no subject
[ And this time, his lips curl up to show sharp canines— clearly, someone is ready for a fight. ]
Brute force it is.
no subject
Mm. That's right. All the other reasons aside, I guess we're technically seeking out a true fight in this War.
You better win, you hear me Lancer?
no subject
[ Another quirk, still showing teeth. ]
You better not have gotten me motivated for nothing.
no subject
[She says this lightly as opposed to jovially. Perhaps she is taking the possible conflict seriously.
Several more minutes of walking and they finally reach the office building in progress. There's literally not a soul in sight, but the aura surrounding the perimeter is palpable.]
No mistake about it. There's gotta be someone or something in here.
no subject
Yeah, and they don't seem like the type who'd welcome us with open arms. My favorite.
no subject
[She squints her eyes at the front gate, trying to parse its structure and the barrier around it.]
Now, if there's a weak spot...
no subject
...he swings his lance, slashing right through the gate's hinges before kicking it down. ]
Found it.
no subject
Oh, okay.
[Did she freak out? KINDA. JUST GONNA STEP INSIDE NOW]
no subject
The poor gate clatters heavily to the ground, and Lancer steps over it...rest in pieces. ]
They barely made an effort with this. Bet they didn't think a Master-Servant combo would come investigate, huh.
no subject
[As they enter the first floor of the building there's an echoing laugh; a woman's to be specific. It makes Lien stop, blinking.]
Guess security's still up and running though.
no subject
Sounds like it. What a drag— I'm fine with fighting women, but I'm not too keen on killing them.
no subject
Okay, but what if they're not corporeal women, Lancer? What then??
[Sarcasm what]
no subject
[ Down, boy. He's kidding, of course, and he gets in fighting motion, crouched slightly towards the ground with his lance hoisted, ready to strike if he's given permission. ]
But if she's already dead, yeah, I wouldn't feel too badly.
no subject
[She rolls her eyes, but grins, but kneels on the floor with one knee and one hand on the floor.]
Cover me. I'm going to see where the kids are being kept.
no subject
[ And as soon as he says so, one of the apparitions swoop down to send a blast of energy their way— more flashy than powerful, really, given that Lancer's able to deflect it with one swing, breathing a short laugh as he bounds and severs the ghost in half. ]
Enjoy the fireworks, kiddo!
