[She blinks at the proposal of a wager.]

That my Master puts something over your Servant's head before we all meet up.

Wait, why would... Oh.

[She furrows her eyebrows as if debating with herself. Would Lien...? It wouldn't be out of character, but she's not that inconsiderate... But then again she did voice her displeasure at having her mind be coaxed into falling in love with his face.]

... How come you seem to be able to predict a very accurate possibility, Cu...?

[lansaigh]

Knowing her, and knowing passing information about your Servant, it's not hard to predict.

[ A wave of the hand, and Cu scratches a mark in the nearest building, just in case this place has them go around in circles. ]

Or maybe she'll tell him to walk backwards the whole time, or something. You think he'd do it?

[emotive]

[A Servant's readiness with current and past information was amazing as usual. Of course they'd be able to identify each other, something that fascinates Ai Thao.

In reply to Cu, she lets out a nervous laugh.]

Making someone walk backwards is a little over the line, even for her.

Let's hope your Servant comes back in one piece.

[ He's kidding, of course— he doesn't think Lien will be terrible to the other Lancer— but he can't help poking a bit of fun. Levity's always been his strong suit. ]

When you start putting it that way, I don't know what she'll do.

[As they walk down the road, she glances at what are supposed to be storefronts filled with different products. But none of them have any signs, indicating of what they're supposed to be.]

But it sounds like you're able to understand her to some extent. I have to say I'm a little glad about that.

Don't give me too much credit. She still blindsides me half of the time. Remember "Hans Gruber"?

[ On his end, Cu is also poking at some of the mystery items that are lined up on the stands, pulling his hand back once he feels that they're not exactly savory to touch. ]

[She's holding back a laugh.]

I can't believe she still likes that movie. But I completely understand what you mean by blindsiding. Half the time, I don't know whether she means to do it or not.

[lansaigh]

Heh. To me, she's a kid that wants a reaction.

[ There's an edge of fondness there, though, as carelessly as he tosses those words around. ]

... Mm. [Right on the money. She doesn't comment anymore on her sister and instead decides to focus on their surroundings.]

This place... It's almost exactly like Fuyuki, but it's all unfinished and incomplete.

[lansaigh]

[ Well. He changes pace along with her, noting that it's probably for the best for sisters to sort that kind of thing out by themselves. ]

Probably because this is an incomplete dimension. Whoever made this place doesn't have the kind of power necessary to fill in all the little details.

[emotive]

[Dimension... Dimensions... Her hand reaches up to lightly touch her forehead. Is she recalling something...? Ugh, no dice.

I can't believe the rifts are weak enough for me to even have that effect. My distortion abilities usually just affect physical objects.

[lansaigh]

You know how they say that in desperate times, even a man can strangle a bear to death? That's probably it.

If that's the case, if we want to find an exit from our original point, perhaps I'd have to do the same thing?

[Another thought passes through her mind as they continue on.]

Spirits could be getting stranded in these sort of realms then... Cu? If it's alright to ask, what do you last remember before you met Lien?

[lansaigh]

[ That's a sticky subject, and he scratches his jaw, frowning for a fraction of a second. ]

Can't say that I remember much. Could be that my last stint out of the Throne of Heroes conveniently didn't make it back.

[ It's the only explanation he has, really. ]

You know how Heroic Spirits work, right?

[She nods. She knows a bit more than Lien at least.]

Normally, you're summoned through a carefully prepared ritual, using a catalyst. And without a Master, Servants don't last long in the material world. That's the basic gist of it.

Mm. But when it comes to memories, it doesn't necessarily mean you'd remember whether you've participated in a previous War or not does it?

[lansaigh]

No, I usually would. What happens is that our core stays at the Throne and copies of our consciousness are summoned into this world as projections. Once our job is done, or our consciousness here fades, the projection makes its way back to the original.

[ He draws a big circle in the ground, and then a few smaller ones, as if to illustrate what he's saying. ]

So. Either my last projection didn't make it back, or it got stuck in limbo and was brought here before it could say hello to the original, or some other option, I have no damn idea.

[emotive]

[Well, that's disturbing.]

The fact that you can't remember the last time you were summoned is worrying. There was a War in Fuyuki ten years ago for sure, but... It's like we're dealing with gaps we can't grasp.

[lansaigh]

[ maybe it's a blessing that cu never got to see that church, tbh... ]

Well, there's no use in wondering why I'm alive, is there? I'm thinking of it as a kind of...

[ Racking his mind for a good modern saying for this, come on, Grail knowledge— ]

If you feel that way, then it's better than being upset.

[For Ai, the fact that there are so many gaps is disturbing; after all she has and still is dealing with the huge gap in her memories. She'd prefer a few more absolutes in their case.]

[ A good long look at his companion, and he sighs. ]

Take it easy, little lady. A fortress is supposed to sit and stay; what good is it if it keeps crumbling under bad weather?

[ And, well. He slaps her (gently) on the back. ]

This situation is irregular. If you keep looking for things that make sense, you're gonna be running out of things to focus on real soon.

—But, yeah. It's quiet; our enemy's not a boaster, that's for sure.

But, I-...! Never mind.

[SO WHAT HE'S SAYING IS SHE'S OVER THINKING IT and yeah she is. The pat on the back came out of nowhere for her, but it kind of snaps her back to what they should be focusing on.]

The Servant that nearly got Lien should still be around. I don't think I damaged him with my Eyes, or if I did, he's biding his time.

Let's get this over with, then. I want to try some of that canned coffee stuff when I get back to the world proper.

[ Hefting Gae Bolg on his shoulder, he pauses. ]

Seems like our partners are getting close, anyway.

It's nice to know that your priorities aren't that different from Lien's...
