You can be honest, but even I know there's consequences to that. Besides, that's a line a caveman would use.
[There's another rumble of thunder and Lien glances out the window.]
... Ah. Too bad I can't call Ai to check up on her.
[She knows her twin's fear after all.]
no subject
If you're that worried, I can sniff her out and see what the little lady's up to.
[ It won't be difficult, since he can still sense Diarmuid from a good distance away. ]
no subject
Thunderstorms aren't her favorite, but since she isn't alone, it might be better to let her be.
[With a quiet sigh, Lien lifts one leg up so it's laying on her side of the couch and resting the remaining part of her body on the opposite side. She lays her head in her arms, long hair sprawled out across her shoulders and her back.]
Once the storm's over, it's back to work I guess.
[Ah, the ever lingering Grail War. Lien takes it more seriously than one would think despite her leisurely tendencies. And considering what's happened in the past few days between her and this Servant... It was best to keep on track.]
no subject
[ He says, not that he's overly enthusiastic about the War himself. There's nothing he stands to gain from it, aside from the fighting and the granting of a physical presence in this world, the latter of which he's taking advantage of quite gladly.
Perching on the armrest of the sofa, he watches Lien rest on her side, a little amused at their collective lack of a real agenda. ]
Whatever'll happen will happen. Don't worry that little head of yours too much.

But their time is limited; unknown, but limited. There are things she can still do, things that she can't replicate with another person once this one next to her is gone. And maybe that's why she should...
A soft sigh escapes from her lips. It's silent for a moment or two as the rain outside continues to drum against the concrete streets and buildings of this modern city.
And then, something unexpected comes out of her although she doesn't look at Cu as she suddenly says: ]
You know what?
You were a really cute kid back then.
no subject
Cute. Okay, this is new. ]
...What, aside from the dog-killing and the womanizing? [ He scratches his chin, buying himself some time. ] Yeah, I was a perfect angel.
[ He knows that that's not what Lien means, but. Well. ]
no subject
[She pulls herself into a normal sitting position again, albeit with one leg up so she can rest her chin her knee as she glances at him.]
Me, being a prime example of course.
no subject
What, so now you're just using this as an excuse to butter yourself up?
no subject
Yeah, I'm definitely at fault here, she thinks. She keeps a calm front even though she feels her raising heartbeat and the slight blush in her cheeks (she prays to god that the candlelight isn't enough to show that or that her hair is covering it, just please.)
Lien replies lightly with a light tilt of her head.]
Am I?
[There's a second or two of consideration before she reaches up with one gloved hand to lightly brush aside some stray stands of Lancer's hair as she solemnly, but earnestly says:]
I'm not sure what I'm doing.
no subject
How lightly does he take an action that he's done many, many times, but in reference to a girl who's always kept people at arm's length?
The answer is that he doesn't, he treats his trajectory to Lien's lips with the same weight he holds for everything, which is simply and with conviction.
What he gives her is a kiss, no more and no less. ]
Trust me, it's better that way.
1/2
Her eyes widen at the kiss and for a minute she's unable to think of anything to say...]
no subject
That's dangerous.
But I liked that. It was definitely better. Better than my first.
no subject
[ And he wants her to believe that that's true, because the alternative is bleak and mordant and life is, he likes to believe, slightly better than what everyone would have you believe. Even if it's on borrowed time.
He brushes a piece of hair out of her face, ruins the effort by giving her a gentle noogie, and then pulls away. ]
no subject
Really? I suppose you think you one-upped me just now?
no subject
[ He mirrors her posture, hands on his hips and his lips twitched up in a semi-canine smile, showing teeth. The playfulness suits him fine: it's something Lien seems to be growing into. ]
no subject
[Lien says this showing a mock indignant expression before it softens and she moves closer to him, still standing and resting her forehead in the groove of his shoulder.]
... Maybe this time though.
[It occurs to her that he figured it out long before she did. "It," being that she liked him. It was the kind of "like," that created curiosity, heartache, ruin, and destruction, the kind that appeared in all those songs and stories to the point where it made others tired of constantly seeing and hearing of a "like" that caused so much pain.
Ah. So it was there all along.
She murmurs, not moving from her spot.]
I'll... We'll see where this goes, okay? Not now, obviously, but... [A short laugh as if she's mocking herself.]
Yeah. We'll see.
no subject
He likes to think that his heart's a good judge of things. (That's why people are always going after it with sharp objects, ha ha.)
Fingers weave through long, dark hair until they settle comfortably on the small of Lien's back, tracing the curve of her spine. A good luck gesture. ]
Make it up as we go along. Sounds like a plan, one you learned from the best.
1/3
She has long gone past the difficult hurdle of touch when it comes to this man. For the longest time, anyone besides Ai Thao represented a threat of the unknown, best kept away with distance. And she kept Lancer at a distance too until everything that happened and led up to this point.
For the first time in her revived life, Lien Kha feels safe. Lien feels okay with who she is and for wanting happiness, giving happiness, and receiving it in return. Lien feels.
There's no denying that this is a dangerous position though. There's a sudden spark of... something and Lien begins to move and talk without actually thinking. Hey, Cu implied it was better if she didn't try to think through everything with something like this. And so she moves from his shoulder, her face remaining close to his.]
This is good. But I will end on one last thing...
[The young woman leans in close, looking into his eyes with her gentle blue ones...]
no subject
Her lips graze past his cheek and at the same time one hand places itself on the back of his neck, pulling Lancer in, making him feel the whisper of her breath...
... And Lien Kha takes a light chomp on the top his ear. Well. More like a nibble, but there is definitely teeth, a sharp and playful tug and then suddenly it's over and she walks past him to the hallway, covering her lips...
no subject
You are not one upping me.
[Well, except for that part.]
no subject
Lancer isn't stunned as much as he's fondly annoyed, for being blindsided with such a cute attack. He has his pride to uphold, doesn't Lien know?
A palm washes over his face, long hair waterfalling over his shoulders, and he peeks through his fingers to return a crooked, exasperated grin.
Whatever is he to do with you, Lien? ]
You better be on your damn toes, missy. My brand of vengeance is swift and merciless.
no subject
Ah, so that's what this will be then? A back and forth of avenging ourselves until it can't escalate any further?
no subject
[ And here he is, following her down the hall before he does one of those trademark hand-against-the-wall gestures. It's done without a serious intention to trap, she would know if he were really pulling out those guns. ]
no subject
[While she can tell he's being playful, at the same time the need to defend herself against this kind of move takes priority (if she looks into his eyes she'll be more tempted to escalate things).
So she leans her forehead against his chest.]
And you make me too curious for my own good.
[There's a shyness in her voice as she admits at least that much.]
