Close your eyes, then. Or don't, you can ruin your own surprise if you want to.
[ A laugh, and he sets off, and not slowly— he should be a little more discreet, given that there may be stragglers around, but he trots with a playful urgency, navigating dark corners and quiet alleys with the ease of a hunting dog.
He moves away from Shinto, towards the quieter part of Fuyuki where nature prevails and the lights are few and far between, towards trees and forests that cover the expanse of land.
He finally slows down when the trees thin and the sky can be seen from the gaps in the leaves, stars brilliant in inky-black and illuminating a row of tall-growing flowers. ]
Sasanquas. [ Is what he says, pointing to the brilliant pinks surrounding the area. He only found out what they were by picking one and bringing it to the florist in town, out of curiosity. Strangely good with flowers, Cu Chulainn... ] Want to know what they represent?
no subject
Flowers? Huh. Definitely not the first thing on her mind. She does appreciate the quiet nighttime scenery around them though and she blinks when he asks her the question.]
I'm not too big on the meaning of most flowers.
... They're really beautiful though.

His answer is simple, flat but with a tinge of knowing: ]
"Strength in the face of adversity", "earnest strength", "endearing".

... If only the weather were more agreeable. The rainclouds that had persisted since that night had only gotten bolder and darker. The news on television reported a coming storm of sorts and that there would be an unusual amount of strong rainfall that would last the entire day. And rain and rain it did.
It's evening and Ai is sitting at the kitchen table, with some pen and paper, in the middle of writing another letter while enjoying some hot tea. She's the very image of a calm and serene young woman lost in thought.
Outside, there's the low rumble of thunder. And then the lights flicker. The scratching of pen on paper ceases for a few seconds before resuming.
Then there's a large crack of lighting that follows and it is so loud and so strong that the lights in the house and in most of Miyama completely shut down. Inside the house, there's a sharp yell in the dark and rustling movement of a chair sliding across the room. The house has darkened and Ai is...
Hey, where did she go??]
no subject
He does do all of these things at various points during the two days post-fight, but the rainy day has him cooped inside, and...
...yes, sewing Ai's choker back together. Don't ever doubt that he was a husband at one point in his life, he has domestic skills. Everything is relatively peaceful, and the only sound in the room is the quiet shuffle of paper and the rustle of fabric, until. Well.
The thunder doesn't startle him as much as the yell does, and he instinctively sets needle and thread aside to get up (blindly, but he has good spacial recognition) scan his eyes in the darkness, and call out for Ai: ] —Master? The lights...
[ Modern technology is so confounding. ]
no subject
Y-Yes. There's not much we can do about the lights now.
[There's some movement from the kitchen.]
I think there should be some candles in one of the unused rooms we can light up... [BOOM. Thunder followed by another strike of lighting sounds off and Ai sounds fairly distressed!]
WAAAHH!! [Wherever she is, she retreats again.]
OW!!
[Aaaand she bumped her head.]

Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feeling
I'm happy again...
[With the darkening clouds, the chilly wind that blew through her hair, and the promise of a heavy shower, Lien felt it was more or less appropriate to sing such a nostalgic song after her short shift at work. And before she could get sidetracked again, she found a video rental store in the city and as luck would have it, they had a copy of Die Hard. With the movie safely tucked in her bag, she was heading back home, with a smile on her face and sunshine in her heart and a song from her lips. Despite the weather and the ongoing Holy Grail War, Lien felt heartened. Everything was going to be alright because she was still alive and better than ever, all thanks to her Servant. Her role as a Master wasn't a complete waste so far.
She feels so different from before. She's human and alive. There's so many things she wants to do, things she wishes could come to pass.
There's a low rumble of thunder in the distance. Small droplets begin to fall from the sky and onto her figure. She's yet to invest in an umbrella for some reason, but then again, she always loved the feel of rain running down her skin and soaking into her hair.]
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for... love...
[The path she's taking is rather empty. People were hurrying away trying to escape the oncoming storm. Lien wasn't quickening her pace though. As she waits to cross a street, out of the corner of her eye there's... A shadow. Its shape was humanoid, but... Strange. Lien's not sure why she isn't feeling more disturbed. Over the din of the rain, she hears it speak clearly to her.]
"Do you wish for this to continue?"
[There's a pause and she replies to the shadowy figure and she's not sure why when she should be avoiding it.]
I don't know. It will end though right? When?
[The shadow chuckles.]
All of this? Well... You've begun to wish. The more you wish, the more this can go on. But wishing can only make this last for so long... But as long as you're willing..."
[The shadow disappears. Lien blinks. The rain is pouring down hard and she realizes... Damn, she's been standing there for almost half an hour. Who was she talking to again?? Ah, well. She sings the rest of the song as she makes her way back.]
... Just singing, singing, in the rain...
I'm home!
[Lien enters the apartment and... She's completely soaked to the bone, not unlike the first day she and Lancer met. Rainwater drips everywhere and she blithely remarks:]
Guess we'll be cooped in for the rest of the evening. Huge thunderstorm's gonna be here apparently.
no subject
He would have thought he'd be the rude one of the two, but he looks up from his perch when he hears Lien and grimaces when he sees her dripping puddles on the floor. ]
By the look of it, it's already here. What, did you trip?
no subject
[She unceremoniously drops her bag to the floor and takes off her shoes. Her outfit of choice had been a hooded sweater, a casual top, and shorts... not the best for rainy weather.]
Granted, I do that a lot already, but when it rains, I get even more distracted. And before I know it, I get my second shower of the day... Damn it.
[And she's struggling with taking off her sweater due to it being weighed down by rainwater, good job Lien.]

I bit his ear.
...
[The Kha twins are staring at each other, both in possession of large glasses filled to the brim with alcohol, waiting for each other to make the first move as the sound of other college aged students fill the air with laughter, conversation, and general socializing that comes with these sort of events. They're on their second round and it's likely a third will follow up.
It had all started with Lien getting invited by one of her classmates to a group party. The reservation at the restaurant had been made and some of it was even going to take place out on the building roof with brightly lit lights, music, plenty of food, and of course, booze. Finals were coming up after all and everyone wanted to kick back and relax before they all had to inevitably suffer the mountains of test questions and papers to complete. Of course, all of those things were barely registering on the list of priorities that Lien has in mind and ever since the previous evening... Well, SOMETHING happened and Ai Thao could tell because her elder twin insisted letting their Servants keep their distance for tonight so they could spend time together. And other people could marvel over the identical twins and they would be able to have another layer of normalcy to fool those around them with.
After the drinking party starts proper, Lien and Ai are able to catch up in terms of their battles since everyone else was too distracted (and they had deterred most attempts to flirt.) First thing's first; Lien and Cu defeated a Rider while Diarmuid defeated a Saber. There are still rifts, but they have not been as prominent like the first few nights. It's bringing up other questions, one they should have asked before; why has this War been going on for so long? Why do the rifts close when rogue Servants are defeated? And most importantly, do the deaths of Servants have something to do with manifesting the Holy Grail?]
This shit is way more complicated than it should be.
[Always count on Lien to put it bluntly.
The goal is still the same though; defeat everyone else with minimal damages as possible and find out the true nature of this War. And this meant that it was more than possible that the twins would have to have their Servants face off against each other. It turns out to be a more uncomfortable topic than expected.]
... If I were to be honest... [As if needing the courage, Ai drains a third of her glass before admitting her shameful thought.] I don't want to let him leave just yet.
Me neither. [Lien finishes her drink off in one gulp and makes a face. Strong stuff. Not cheap.]
... Chị, did something happen? You've been...
What. WHAT?? Crap, has it really been showing?! [Lien's cheeks flare up as she thinks about last night. It ended peacefully without too much incident afterwards, but still...]
It's not what you think, alright??
Then what WAS it?!
Look, you're the one who's also getting fluttery over THAT guy...!
He's not just some... He's better than...!
[And that's how they admitted to their failures as Masters to each other; in a drunken stupor. They've done it. They've fallen and they can't get back up from where they started because their human hearts betrayed them in light of how they saw these Heroic Spirits now that so much time has passed. They're fools, absolute fools. Lien can't help, but laugh when she realizes the current situation they're stuck in; they really are sisters through and through. Ai moans trying to push the brilliant smile and warmth of Diarmuid out of sight and out of mind.]
We're the worst magi ever!! [Someone is kind enough to refill her glass and Lien's. The latter is sick of trying to feel bad about how she feels and swings her glass around, looking forward to seeing Cu after the party was done. Hell, why wait? She stands up, pulling her sister up with her. And grabbing two cans of beer because Servants can drink, it's fine!!]
Who caaaaaaaarrrresss. We're gonna kick ass, take names, kick more ass, and your guy is gonna love ya for it, cause mine is just fine, goin' with my flow and all. Don't worrrrrry!!
Laaaaaaaaaaaaaanccccceerrrrrrr.
[Lien and Ai had directed the Servants to wait for them, on the ground floor of the building. The twins stumble out of the elevator as Lien calls for the both of them while Ai rubs her forehead, feeling like she's going to be full of regret in the morning; Lien's classmates are also filing out and some are staying behind to talk (and look curiously at who the twins are talking to because they said they had someone picking them up...]
no subject
—well, this War is already way beyond the scope of what a usual Holy Grail War should be, anyway. A little bit of deviation is already well within their code of conduct.
When the twins teeter out of the elevator and into the general vicinity of the two waiting Servants, it's Cu who steps forward first with a raised brow and a mildly exasperated quirk of a smile. Someone's been drinking, is his assessment of the situation... ]
Yeah, yeah, I hear you. Me and the rest of the city.
no subject
[It's troubling really. Lien has her arm draped around Ai's shoulder (who, by the way, is amazingly still standing up straight despite all the drinking). Both of them have their hair untied, no braid in sight, and ear piercings also nowhere to be seen. If it hadn't been for their different style of clothing, it would have been fairly difficult to tell them apart.
That, and, well, it's easy to tell who's Lien who proudly declares:]
Gentlemen. I believe my sister and I have made a huge mistake! [She looks at Diarmuid and gives him a THUMBS UP while Ai sighs apologetically.]
Don't worry though, we're completely and totally fine!

He and his dear friend part ways. A bond stronger and worth more than anything in the world, but not strong enough for them to give up their loyalties.
He has his princess. No one can oppose him. But the fighting isn't over. It's never over.
Another war. He's the only one who can stand up to the invaders. A ruthless queen. Unfavorable conditions. Even he gets tired and sleeps an entire day, which costs many lives. It comes down to the opponent he never wished to face, his dear friend, the one who struggled alongside him in the Land of Shadows. Wielding the demonic spear, he wins and his friend dies. One of his shames, perhaps the one that actually hurt the most. The war has been won.
Years later, he meets a boy, someone equally impudent and wild as himself. He is made to face him even though his wife begs him not to. The boy puts up more of a fight than expected. Gae Bolg is used once again.
He realizes that it was his son.
The hero dies, tied to a post, spear in his chest, and a smile on his face.
She sees all this and she has to wonder, how? Why do you smile? Didn't any of that hurt? Didn't you ever want to stop?? She wants to reach out to him and...

The first thing that Lien does after waking up at around 4 in the morning is to roll out of bed, go to the bathroom, and begin to cleanse herself thoroughly in the shower to get rid of any trace of alcohol that may remain on her person. It was mortifying, sleeping next to the man she liked in that state. She had a feeling Lancer didn't particularly mind, but for her, it was a case of personal discomfort rather than being insecure around him. The hot water was helping the young magus clear her head as she allowed the images from the dream linger in her mind.
What a life. There didn't seem to be a single moment in Cu Chulainn's existence that wasn't filled with some sort of excitement and conflict. Live fast, die young, Irish heroes do it well. Had she read his legend before ever meeting him in the flesh, maybe she would have turned out differently. Maybe she would have liked him to begin with. Her hands run through her long hair as she contemplates what was between them presently.
... No, she had no idea how to take it. The memory of the kiss and his hand around hers is burned into her mind, but Lien doesn't know if it would go beyond that. Could it? Like. How would that even work?? And in the end, it's not as though he would be with her when everything would come to a close...
She's done showering and cleaning herself and drying her hair at 5 AM, dressed in more comfortable sleeping clothes (a baggy sweater and shorts). Lien slips quietly back under the covers trying not to think too hard about the person next to her because then there would be no way she'd be getting any sleep.]
no subject
But, well. Lien isn't exactly the world's strongest magus with an infinite supply of prana, so resting isn't exactly a waste of time. Especially considering his continued material state— it takes energy to keep him here, corrupt Grail or no.
He doesn't dream, but when Lien sneaks back into bed at the crack of dawn, there's a dull ache in his chest. His heart.
Huh. ]
...Can't sleep?
no subject
I'm okay. I had weird dreams again, but I'm okay.

And. Well. The young magus is in a crisis; not that she was going to show it outwardly, but Ai feels like she's done something she can't take back so easily and it was the one thing she had been trying to avoid. Last night, saying all of those things felt right, but was it really?? Granted, she had always been one to wear her heart on her sleeve, but it was seen as a detriment more often than not. She had asked herself what did she have to fear? But she woke up feeling apprehensive and scared again.
Ai wanted to be at the harbor first (and didn't so make any reference to last night so far). There isn't any sign of the familiar they had encountered last night, at least not yet. It was a bright and sunny day and the breeze from the ocean makes Ai's long hair fly around. She brushes her hand through it to get it out of her face as she looks in the direction of where her sister should appear from.]
I'm sure they'll be here soon. This is important, so she won't be as leisurely like she'd usually be.
no subject
He stands a few steps behind her, to her right, and only approaches so he can sift her hair to the side and put it back into place against the wind. ]
Miss Lien not being leisurely. I'd like to see it.
no subject
My sister's a hard worker, but she doesn't show it. I think she prefers to go unnoticed when it comes to her more dependable qualities.
She'd push herself to the point of exhaustion without telling anyone...
[Because Lien didn't like telling others that she was in pain. She hid it while Ai herself... Well.]
I'm afraid we're both too similar in that aspect.

[Another half hour had passed before the group met their destination. They had passed a Bounded Field, no doubt created by Caster, who had set up the boundary lines in the middle of the sea. Their real destination, is a cruise-like ship, one much larger, dwarfing their yacht by several sizes. There are a few passenger boats nearby and the sound of human activity on board, meaning...]
Huh. More people??
[Ai stands next to her twin also troubled, but continuously observant.]
"If one didn't know any better, you'd think it was just a normal cruise ship."
[Lien is keeping a keen eye out for whatever is out of the norm.
no subject
[ Similarly, Cu is squinting at this new development, a hand raised over his eyes. This is quite an unconventional setup for a fight, that's for sure. ]
...It looks like they brought a party with them. Not exactly the kind of thing I expected.
no subject
The whole ship is... Well, there's definitely prana flowing throughout the whole thing...
[Which could be worrisome in itself.]
Didn't the familiar say something about wanting to exchange information? If there's normal people on board, I should hope we don't start a fight here where we're surrounded by the ocean and by people who have supposedly have nothing to do with this.
[Their yacht is slowing down and parking near an available entrance of the large ship. The familiar steps out and bows to the group.]
"We have arrived. Pay no heed to the others for they will pay no heed to you for the time being."
[Meaning they'll be concealed, magically. Ai takes her place next to Diarmuid and nods with Lien; time to go in.]

There's only one person who's making any noise and it's the humming of, "Fly Me to the Moon," by Ai Thao, who's leaning on a railing with one arm and cupping her cheek with her opposite hand. Her expression is nothing less than pure and glowing happiness. She's changed back into her casual clothes and the ocean breeze passes through her hair as she continues to hum.
Lien comes up behind her, also changed back, adjusting her glasses and yawning as she joins her twin.]
"Ah, well back to the War grind then. Then again some kind of...
That sure is some smile you've got there."
Ehehe! [Even under Lien's scrutiny, Ai simply stands up straight to pat her pink cheeks, the smile never disappearing from her face.]
I don't think I can stop even if I wanted! I mean a lot just happened and...
[Lien holds up her hand, shaking her head.]
"I won't ask. I'm being nice just this one time to you and... Well, you know who."
[Lien glances around to see where the Servants are while Ai just runs through her hands through her hair dreamily.
It's been a wonderful night so far.]

(If anything, Diarmuid might be sparkling a bit more than usual, and Cu might be noticing that with no little degree of wry amusement; kids, kids.)
There's no time to be complacent, of course. There's a swirl of negative energy that's curled under the main foundations of Fuyuki City, almost as if it's heard Caster and the duo's discussion. Retaliation will come, and it's coming quickly— but for the moment, Diarmuid catches Lien's eye.
And smiles, inquisitively— a silent 'did you need anything?'
