[It was another night in the town of Blackgale, with no moon in sight to set the dark sky aglow amid the blanket of stars. The lack of moonlight, however, was not stopping the local (and only) witch, Amelia Steinbeck, from doing a much needed patrol for this particular night. After all, when a demon from the darkest realm from who knows where comes to ones doorstep with the intention of murder, there's probably others lurking around.

That wasn't going to do, not at all.


Of course, she had to be at school soon for an early morning meeting... But hey, it's high school and she was always on time no matter what, thanks to magic. And thus, Amelia began to wander around in the streets, with a green flame flickering in one hand-- only visible to her, other magic users, and a magnet for more demons.

Not all of us can tap into hammerspace on such a large scale, you know.

[ he crosses the room to where a laptop is resting on a coffee table. He tuns it on and looks at the clock. ]

I'm off by an hour, but I managed to get us back here on the same day I left.

[She nods]

Depending on how long my studies go, I think I'll stay for at least two or three days.

Where we goin' to stay Miss Amelia? Will I be back in time for supper?

I'm sure your mother was informed about our little visit somehow. You'll be fine, I'm taking care of you.

[spellbent]

The bedrooms are all upstairs. Let's get you settled.

[recluserose]

[Starting up the stairs then! Dusky jumps down from Amelia's shoulder, walking right next to her]

Are there any other cats around? Mother says the ones that don't live in town don't know how to talk at all! She says they can be real dumb even if we understand them. Can I talk to the other cats outside Mr. West?

Dusky, I thought I made it clear that you were to be quiet if we ever go outside. You're supposed to be a normal cat remember?

[spellbent]

[ He shows her to a room- just slightly smaller than one he stayed in at her place, though it also lacks the fireplace. It does have its own bathroom, though. ]

How's this?

[recluserose]

Oh... It's more than enough. And by that I mean, it's good. [She sets down her bag and Dusky leaps onto the bed]

[spellbent]

So glad I could meet your standards.

The library is two doors down, and my room is across the hall from that.

[recluserose]

Alright then. Maybe I'll look up a history of rune magic first-- an alphabetical index...?

Think you'll be expecting any visitors or will there be no one that I need to stay out of sight from?

[spellbent]

No one I can think of. [ As far as he knows, even if she did run into Jacob, he wouldn't know who she is. ]

Like I said, I'm pretty sure any large-scale use of your magic would be what draws attention.

[recluserose]

Thankfully, I don't have any reason to use any of it.

I'll be hitting the books then. What will you be doing in the meantime?

[spellbent]

Hopefully.

I have some errands to run, which was what I was on my way to do when I got waylaid by a demon. It'll be about time for dinner when I get back.

[recluserose]

Duly noted.

[Pauses. She looks like she has one more thing to add. Hesitantly, but sincerely she says]

... Be careful.

[spellbent]

[ That gives him pause, but after a moment he breaks into a smile ]

I always am.

[recluserose]

The 'always' part is a bit questionable.

[spellbent]

I haven't lived this long by being reckless.

[recluserose]

Clearly I could learn a thing or two from your example. [Har har, sarcasm]

[spellbent]

Clearly. [ right back at you :| ]

I meant to ask before but, do you have a cell phone?

[recluserose]

Did I bring one-- Ah. Give me a moment.

[Digging into her bag and digging out various items-- about five large textbooks, a stack of essays to grade, pens, pencils, a radio, her favorite mug, the case for her eyeglasses--oh look cellphone]

Ah, there it is. I barely use it to be honest. [It still looks new. Someone here is lazy with technology]

[spellbent]

[ the look on his face gets slightly more incredulous each time she pulls something new out of the bag ] ... I just wanted to leave you my number in case you needed anything.

[recluserose]

[And there's a lot more where that came from.]

Oh. Well, that's a good idea especially since I'm not using any magic and all.

[spellbent]

Do you have a piece of scrap paper somewhere in all that?

[recluserose]

[Pulls out a leather notebook :V]

I'm pretty well prepared if I do say so myself.

[spellbent]

I'll say.

[ he holds out a hand for the notebook ] May I?

[recluserose]

[Handing it over and then proceeds to put some of the other things back into the bag.

Dusky, meanwhile, has been... Rather quiet. Odd really, but she seems to be watching Warren and Amelia reaaaaaal carefully.]

[spellbent]

[ He jots down his number, and tosses the notebook on the end of the bed, since Amelia's still digging around in her bag. He glances at the kitten ]

You're being awfully quiet.
