[It was another night in the town of Blackgale, with no moon in sight to set the dark sky aglow amid the blanket of stars. The lack of moonlight, however, was not stopping the local (and only) witch, Amelia Steinbeck, from doing a much needed patrol for this particular night. After all, when a demon from the darkest realm from who knows where comes to ones doorstep with the intention of murder, there's probably others lurking around.

That wasn't going to do, not at all.


Of course, she had to be at school soon for an early morning meeting... But hey, it's high school and she was always on time no matter what, thanks to magic. And thus, Amelia began to wander around in the streets, with a green flame flickering in one hand-- only visible to her, other magic users, and a magnet for more demons.

[She pushes the glasses back onto her nose-- they've been magicked so she can see hidden creatures with more clarity.]

Hm. Maybe I should have made these stronger.

[wizardcop]

... Can you see them?

[recluserose]

[Nods.]

They're more visible to me now.

[wizardcop]

[ He removes his hat ]

That must be one hell of a pair of glasses.

[ aaaand gives the hat a little shake. Thick black smoke pours out of the fedora, pooling on the ground at Jacob's feet. The smoke takes the form of a large, black wolf. It regards Amelia and the cat with bright yellow eyes, snorts, and turns its gaze to the trees. ]

[Whoa, she is surprised. And Dusky is too, ouch don't dig your claws into her shoulder]

... And you, Mr. Randall, have one hell of a Fedora.

[wizardcop]

So I've been told.

[ he replaces the hat on his head and glances down at the wolf ]

Ready?

[ Fedora nods, and they both begin walking towards the trees. ]

[recluserose]

[She'll try not to do anything for now, but she's still close behind, curious as to what creatures are. Curse her scholarly curiosity!]

[wizardcop]

You really don't have to come, you know.

[recluserose]

[Very simply replies]

I'm curious.

[wizardcop]

... Just be on your guard.

[recluserose]

I'll do my best Detective. [She is glowing slightly, but hey she's just on her guard like he says to do]

[wizardcop]

[ He is really starting to wonder about the nature of her magic abilities, but there will be time for that later.

Just as they approach the trees, a wraith makes a move, shooting out and trying to make a grab for them. Fedora is on it rather quickly, pouncing on the creature that should be intangible. The wolf pins it beneath too-large paws, snarling. ]

[recluserose]

[Now this she recognizes or at least has heard of in her world. But man, that is one fierce wolf]

I don't suppose wraiths are a common occurrence here?

[wizardcop]

Not really. Regular ghosts, certainly. It's been a while since I've seen one of these fellows.

[ Jacob sketches a mark in the air. In perhaps a predicable contrast, the marks he makes are white, glowing softly, where Warren's are black.

The wraith takes on the same glow as the rune for a moment, then sort of... disintegrates and vanishes. ]

[recluserose]

[Making mental notes, making mental notes--! But ugh, she can't really ask she'll look dumb and it's more than enough to give away that she's not from here at all. Well, casual remark should do]

... Hm. That looks as if you almost put it to rest as opposed to something harsher.

[wizardcop]

I did. I guess you can say I've had a lot of practice.

[recluserose]

... You're a very kind man aren't you? That's good.

[wizardcop]

... [ he looks a little surprised at that, but smiles ] Thank you.

[recluserose]

Keep at it. There needs to be more kind people in the world.

[Inwardly, she's saying whatever beef Warren has with Jacob, she hopes his kindness won't cripple him and instead strengthen him.]

[wizardcop]

[ He's still a Randall, and that makes him a force to be reckoned with. He's just had a lot of hard lessons in selflessness. ]

I do tr-- whoa!

[ Fedora grabs the back of Jake's jacket in his jaws, yanking him down as a wraith swoops overhead. It's still a close call as the thing nearly takes off his hat. ]

Damn. Too close for comfort.

[recluserose]

[That swoop almost takes her by surprise as well, making her magic flare around her-- but only for a moment since she remembers she has to be kept low-key.]

They're rather demanding aren't they?

[wizardcop]

[ He's too distracted to notice that, thankfully. ]

Just a bit.

[recluserose]

Can't you scare them off? [Wants to do something to take control of the situation, but aaaaaaaaaugh low-key]

I might as WELL do something...

[wizardcop]

I'd rather they be gone for good than just gone for now.

[recluserose]

[HNNNNGH. You know what, screw it she's doing something]

How about I try snagging one? I'll bring it over and you can use your magic to put it to rest.
