[It was another night in the town of Blackgale, with no moon in sight to set the dark sky aglow amid the blanket of stars. The lack of moonlight, however, was not stopping the local (and only) witch, Amelia Steinbeck, from doing a much needed patrol for this particular night. After all, when a demon from the darkest realm from who knows where comes to ones doorstep with the intention of murder, there's probably others lurking around.

That wasn't going to do, not at all.


Of course, she had to be at school soon for an early morning meeting... But hey, it's high school and she was always on time no matter what, thanks to magic. And thus, Amelia began to wander around in the streets, with a green flame flickering in one hand-- only visible to her, other magic users, and a magnet for more demons.

They must have sent a rather powerful one. Either that or it was simply a case of overkill.

[spellbent]

That fact that we could hear it from here is a little disconcerting.

[recluserose]

The town's used to it even though they don't know what it is.

[She pauses]

Ten years ago there were more of them. They practically terrorized the place, but I was able to root out the problem with some help.

[spellbent]

What was the problem? If I may ask.

[recluserose]

There was... A huge source of magic that suddenly appeared in town one day. The demons weren't just searching for it on their own-- they were under orders.

[She suddenly looks uncomfortable talking about this, but she continues]

All the time I'd been living there, I never noticed there was actually a second witch living in town. But she wasn't born with any power despite being from a magical bloodline. What she did have was a tome to summon the creatures.

[spellbent]

You managed to find her, then, and put an end to it?

[recluserose]

[She nods]

That's the gist of it. I had to kill a particularly powerful demon she summoned, one that could have swallowed the whole town.

The whole incident is how I gained my title. [There is an odd quality to her voice.

It's... sad.]

[spellbent]

...It's not a good memory for you, is it?

[recluserose]

It isn't.

I may have gained recognition, but I never did feel like I did any good. [She bites her lip and lets out a shaky sigh]

Ten years... It really isn't long at all.

[spellbent]

You gained recognition, but you lost something that day, didn't you?

[recluserose]

I suppose that's the best way to put it.

... Let's head back soon. I need to check my house.

[spellbent]

Of course.

[recluserose]

[Timeskip to her house-- And there is smoke coming from the garden. The gnomes are emitting smoke and the flower beds and trees are somewhat scorched.

Amelia examines the damage doing a 'tsk tsk']

Still too messy.

[spellbent]

[ Warren surveys the damage with a bemused expression ]

What the hell do these things do? Shoot lasers out of their eyes?

[recluserose]

Sort of. I thought the shock of being bested by enchanted garden gnomes would hurt more to be honest. [And that is serious sarcasm lacing her words right there]

[spellbent]

There are certainly less embarrassing ways to go.

[recluserose]

[A wave of her hand and the garden is fixed-- before she opens the door however--]

You know, I actually didn't have a chance to ask you another question during dinner.

[spellbent]

What's that?

[recluserose]

[She crosses her arms giving him a pointed look]

Why did you ask me about 'wanting' that to be a date? Or rather, why did you bring up the idea at all?

[spellbent]

... We've already established that I don't have many friends. The last thing I want to do is jump the gun and risk losing your companionship. [ Or ending up on the wrong end of her magic, but he won't mention that ] So, what you want is important.

But... if I'm being perfectly honest with you, I wouldn't have minded if you had wanted to consider it a date.

[recluserose]

[Raises an eyebrow]

[spellbent]

[recluserose]

[She gives a side way glance, unsure of how to reply. For one thing, she really can't tell if there's any intention behind this or not other than making sure not to anger her. Although it makes her wonder what he could do to get on her REALLY bad side.

If anything, she has to commend him for being a smart man. She lets out a puff of breath.]

Hm. Still awkward.

[spellbent]

Sorry.

[recluserose]

No, it's-- [She pauses. And then Amelia reaches up to pat him on the arm.

Awkwardly.]
