[It was another night in the town of Blackgale, with no moon in sight to set the dark sky aglow amid the blanket of stars. The lack of moonlight, however, was not stopping the local (and only) witch, Amelia Steinbeck, from doing a much needed patrol for this particular night. After all, when a demon from the darkest realm from who knows where comes to ones doorstep with the intention of murder, there's probably others lurking around.

That wasn't going to do, not at all.


Of course, she had to be at school soon for an early morning meeting... But hey, it's high school and she was always on time no matter what, thanks to magic. And thus, Amelia began to wander around in the streets, with a green flame flickering in one hand-- only visible to her, other magic users, and a magnet for more demons.

I think I'd have to have more than six drinks to even reach that level of fanaticism.

Though I'd be willing to buy you a least one for being a bother.

[YES ALCOH-- Wait. On the one hand, she'll probably go with more than one drink and risk saying something stupid while being drunk.

On the other hand, alcohol.

... Sigh, this is hard.]

Hm. It is a tempting offer. [Dusky is just kind of watching Jacob closely. Very closely]

[ Well, leave it to Jacob to totally misinterpret her hesitation ]

I'm not asking you out, or trying to pick you up, if that's what you think. I'm very happily taken.

[She... Actually has to grin at that remark]

No, no I understand where you're coming from. I'm just trying to be an adult and exercise self-restraint.

[wizardcop]

Fair enough.

Allow me to at least give you my card, then, if you need anything while you're here.

I'm being well taken care of enough, but I'll accept the card anyways.

There is one more question you could ask. You don't need to answer it-- how old are you?

[wizardcop]

[ he fishes one out of his billfold and hands it to her ]

That's an awfully personal question. I'm 42, why?

That young huh...?

[wizardcop]

I know, I know. I'm young, which is not something I ever expected to be considered at 42 years old.

[recluserose]

And here I thought I was still a green miss.

[wizardcop]

I know I'm not supposed to ask a lady her age, but... do you mind sharing?

[recluserose]

Mm. Sixty-six.

[wizardcop]

You look good for your age.

[ it starts out as a compliment, but his gaze slowly drifts to a nearby stand of trees and he frowns ]

[recluserose]

And that's very kind of you.

[It seems that Dusky seems to notice that something is amiss as well-- her fur is prickling and it sticks out which in turn gets Amelia's attention.]

... It's going to be a long day isn't it?

[wizardcop]

[ There's definitely something there, but he can't tell just what. He knows it's not good, though. ]

For me, perhaps.

Should I just take a step back and let the detective do his work? [She takes off her glasses to rub them clean on her sleeve]

[wizardcop]

I wouldn't dare ask you to get involved. It's not that I think you're incapable, but it's simply not your job.

[recluserose]

And if you were to fall? [And before she puts her glasses back on, she taps them-- she's putting a simple enchantment on the lenses]

[wizardcop]

I just have to hope I won't.

[ he can see them now, peering out of the trees. He's seen ghosts before- hell, there are ghosts all over the place- but there's something inhuman about these. The way they move, and look, and regard them both with something like malice. ]

[recluserose]

[She pushes the glasses back onto her nose-- they've been magicked so she can see hidden creatures with more clarity.]

Hm. Maybe I should have made these stronger.

[wizardcop]

... Can you see them?

[recluserose]

[Nods.]

They're more visible to me now.
