Look, the name was actually Oren's idea not hers!!!That's her first reaction when she sees the soaked Waver. Her drawing of waffles on the chalkboard is completed so she climbs down and grabs one of the towels from the cupboard. She walks over to offer the towel to him.]You're new, so your first drink's free. We can make any kind of coffee or tea. Or any drink really! Ah, within reason though.
[Thankfully, Berna was generous with providing ingredients and stock for their cafe (and using magic, they're able to preserve things for a long time) so they were able to get some pretty unique products.]
Let me guess though... Book bag... [Iona snaps her fingers.]
Student, duh. Coffee might be your jam right now.
no subject
Damn, long hair. But he's too lazy to change it.Faced with the option of 'anything (within reason)', his mind goes blank. So he's rather glad when her deduction brings him back to coffee.]
Yah, it has been. [Out of necessity.] I don't suppose you can make anything that tastes like coffee, but isn't either sickeningly sweet or it's-been-in-the-pot-for-twenty-hours bitter? [There's only so much bitter he can take, hence a penchant for lattes.]
no subject
If I brew up a fresh pot and put sugar and milk on the side for you to add on your own, that might just be possible. Whaddya say?
[She always tries to be as hospitable as possible, especially so newcomers can get a sense for what kind of cafe this is supposed to be.]
no subject
[The first cup being free was an unexpected bonus, but what if he has to pay for a whole pot of coffee?]
no subject
Don't sweat the small stuff, kid. My co-worker and I will find a use for the rest after you get your cup. [
SHE'LL DRINK IT]Anyways, take a seat! It'll be ready in a jiffy.
[And before he can reply, she bounces back behind the counter and items to make coffee are shuffled around and she continues the conversation from there.]
Where'd you come in from by the way? I mean, not everyone finds the door and it shows up in strange place sometimes.
no subject
Thanks.
[And seeing as she seems so insistent in continuing the conversation (sigh), he goes to look at the books on the bookshelf by the counter instead of taking a seat. For now.
He doesn't even get to start reading titles before his head whips around at that casual statement.]
Excuse me?
[He tries to keep his expression bland but- that sounds very much like magecraft.]
no subject
You found this door, soooooooo, magic right?
[Her arm felt... Itchy? This was the lowest radar she's felt so far. It's there though, faint as it is.
lol 5 MP]no subject
He might as well answer the rest-]
Your door was stuck in a blank alley. [A beat of looking at her consideringly] In Fuyuki city, Japan. ...Where does the door open to when you go out?
no subject
[Iona continues the coffee making, pouring some beans into a grinder and turning the handle before continuing on.]
Japan, huh? We get a few visitors from there sometimes.
Oh, and me? It leads me to the back of the apartment I live in in America.
no subject
That makes for a nice commute for you. [But all the way in America? This is some portal she's got going here.]
Why use it like this though? [Because, such high-level magecraft, and it's a cafe? (He weeps...)]
no subject
Why not??
[Still it isn't a bad question and it does make her think a little.]
It's hard for most people who aren't normal to meet together in public. Sure, there's homes and other spots, but I wanted to make a place those people can feel relaxed in.
no subject
Her more thoughtful answer is interesting, and he feels like he could even understand it, a little.]
The Clock Tower is full of magus, but it's sure not a place to be relaxed in.
[He unnecessarily glances around the empty room.]
But does more than one person often come at a time?
no subject
The Clock Tower?? Never heard of it.
no subject
"Wha- Yes, you have. You know, Big Ben? The British Museum?" Even if she's aligned with another organization, she should know it's the main branch of the Mage’s Association.
no subject
[Iona wiggles her fingers around as if trying to recall certain things before calling out to the back.]
OREN!! Is the door broken?
[There's a, "No," from the back; a man's voice and Iona shrugs as she turns her attention back to the coffeepot]
This is beginning to sound complicated.
what format was I using again? >.>
... Despite himself, his curiosity has the better of him. What's 'complicated'?]
If you don't know... are you not aligned with any Mage's organization? [He supposes it could happen, unlikely as it was that the Mages would let someone wander free.]
shhhhhh /headpats
[A beat. And she kind of lets out a snort.]
Wow, that sounded sillier than it did in my head.
no subject
Great. [And it's all her fault- he can't make dimensional doors. His head then snaps up. She'd asked if the door was broken-]
Wait- your door isn't supposed to do this? What will you do if I don't get back properly?!
no subject
It's gonna get cold. Drink. Calm down. I'll explain it as best as I can.
[There's some authority in her voice and it's not backing down.]
no subject
[With a frown he looks at the coffee. ... It'll be faster to just go along with it. So he takes the cup and sits at the table closest to the counter.]
Fine. Go for it.
no subject
Good news is, is that you'll be able to go back where you came from. That's just how the door works.
"Everywhere, but nowhere, at once." It's vague, but you gotta go with the flow. Although "everywhere" usually just applies to what I'm familiar with.
[ANOTHER SHRUG. She's fairly casual about this.]
no subject
Well, that is good news, then.
[He tests the temperature of his coffee, pressing his hands carefully to the cup.
'Gotta go with the flow', though?]
It sounds suspiciously like you were not the one to design the door's rules, though.
no subject
[She laughs as if it's a funny thing.]
Anyways, relax. Don't think too hard about how we're from different worlds or whatever. Though, the Clock Tower does sound interesting. Maybe my grandmother would know something about it...??
no subject
His lips twist into a sardonic smile.]
'Interesting'? The Clock Tower is full of self-involved, arrogant pricks who can't see past their noses.
[As he speaks he pours some milk into his coffee. He then takes a sip. And then takes a drink.]
Wow, that's good.
[Just like he asked for, it tastes like coffee without being so bitter. He doesn't even feel the urge to add heaps of sugar.]
no subject
Isn't it though? I'm so glad you like it!
