I panicked.

But, um, your face is very youthful! And I thought it's better to assume that one is younger than they actually are, at least with humans?

[somnum]

[He puts his hands on his face, groaning.]

Please just stop there. I don't have the face of a fifteen year-old. Again, you're awful at this.

[Arcueid's social skills aren't terrible per say, but definitely off-kilter. This moment definitely proves it. She puffs up her cheeks at his bluntness, but doesn't really go after him about it.]

So are you a magus? Or do they call it something else where you're from?

[somnum]

[He raises his (good) arm to cover his eyes with his forearm as he answers. Idly, he's starting to feel a chill, and figures maybe that he should ask for some kind of shirt.

But first, her question.]

And what do you define "magus" as? Someone that uses magic?

Like I said, "true" magic is something else entirely. No, a magus is someone who practices Magecraft. Or it's also known as Thaumaturgy. It's an artificial reenactment, if anything.

[somnum]

All right, well... None of that means much to me. The easiest answer is this: I can use magic, but I'm not called a "magus". The warping you saw me do last night? It's more like... a family thing.

[arctype]

I see! It's like the mystery was passed down through the family line because it's exclusive to your blood.

[somnum]

Something like that. Others can "borrow" it from me, to a certain extent.

[He'd shrug if he wasn't lying down.]

Comes in handy during a fight.

Ah, that's very functional! [Arc nods as she listens, as if taking this seriously.]

Are you a monster hunter then? Is that what the magic's for?

[somnum]

[He shakes his head. Well, she's not completely off, but it's not the full truth.]

We have been hunting monsters, but that's not exactly what I am. At least, it's not the only thing.

[He pauses, only briefly.]

I'm the Lucian Prince. [He frowns. The correction still sounds and feels odd, and most still call him "Prince Noctis".] ...King now, actually, I guess.

["Lucian" doesn't have a meaning to her, but the royal titles do. Arcueid blinks at Noctis for a second...]

That's amazing Noctis! Guess what?

I'm a princess! We have something in common!

[He moves his arm from over his eyes, flopping it down next to him. He gives her a look that almost reads as skeptical.]

You're a princess? So... a vampire princess? They have those?

[Regardless, that's a strange coincidence.]

Kind of! I'm a special case as in, my species doesn't propagate to prolong a bloodline or anything. I suppose the title's just fanciful in the end.

[There is a reason behind her existence, but that's a story for another day, if that day ever comes that is.]

If it's just fanciful, then what? You're not expected to lead the rest of the... vampire people, or whatever?

[He's not trying to sound dismissive; for some reason, he's actually sincerely curious.]

... Mm.

[There's... Not a lot of them to rule to begin with. But ruling was not her role. For a moment, Arcueid looks serious, looking ahead at the wall in front of her so Noctis can only see the profile of her face instead.]

I'm not a leader of any kind. There's nothing to rule.

[He looks at her profile, quietly at first. Did he bring up something painful again?

Noctis brings his gaze back up to the ceiling, frowning. He shifts a little.]

...What happened? War?

[That would hit a little too close to home, if that was the case.]

[There's a slow, if hesitant nod.]

Something like that.

Many are dead or in an eternal sleep. Same thing really.

[somnum]

[A part of him actually feels a little... sad for her, hearing that. He doesn't know what to say, so he keeps it simple. And sincere.]

I'm... sorry. That sounds awful.

[It sounds like she's lost too much; a path Noctis himself would prefer to avoid.]
