[It was another night in the town of Blackgale, with no moon in sight to set the dark sky aglow amid the blanket of stars. The lack of moonlight, however, was not stopping the local (and only) witch, Amelia Steinbeck, from doing a much needed patrol for this particular night. After all, when a demon from the darkest realm from who knows where comes to ones doorstep with the intention of murder, there's probably others lurking around.

That wasn't going to do, not at all.


Of course, she had to be at school soon for an early morning meeting... But hey, it's high school and she was always on time no matter what, thanks to magic. And thus, Amelia began to wander around in the streets, with a green flame flickering in one hand-- only visible to her, other magic users, and a magnet for more demons.

[Emily comes back and leads them to a table near the back. Amelia seats herself before continuing]

Still, were I to leave, I'd still have to choose where I want to go.

[ as per usual, Warren sits down across from her ] Any ideas?

I was thinking England, but... No, too many other wizards and witches.

[spellbent]

Is that where they naturally gather, or did they all just move there because of Harry Potter?

[recluserose]

It's a natural gathering place. Long history of magic, it's great for exploration and discoveries of old magic artifacts, and more political intrigue than you can shake a wand at within their community.

Not that any respectable magic user actually uses a wand.

[spellbent]

Tell me about it. Not that a few younger wizards over there didn't try to cash in on the Harry Potter phenomenon.

[recluserose]

It's amazing how normal people can be so fascinated with what they don't know about... But then I remind myself that I accepted the offer of a strange man and now here I am.

[spellbent]

I think mankind will always be fascinated by magic. Hell, I'm a hundred-year-old wizard and I'm still fascinated by magic.

[recluserose]

I got tired of it at some point, but now I'm going at my own pace with it. [She brushes a strand of hair behind her ear]

Still, it doesn't stop me from missing the time when I first received my magic.

[spellbent]

A little wonder-struck, were you?

[recluserose]

Of course I was. I was normal once and all of a sudden, a fairy tale came true to me. I could make flowers grow, starlight fall from the sky, make fire dance....

Ah, I was young once.

[spellbent]

We all were.

[recluserose]

Still, I'm younger than you.

[spellbent]

Probably not for much longer, considering the time difference between our worlds.

[recluserose]

Somehow I wouldn't bet on it. [They're handed menus and she skims through it]

Hm. I wonder what my mentor would think of you... He hasn't visited me for a while.

[spellbent]

Are you planning on introducing us?

[recluserose]

No. He comes and goes as he pleases and just because I'm his student, it doesn't mean he'll defer to my wishes or let me keep track of him.

[Besides, nowadays, she feels annoyed at him]

[spellbent]

Then what brought that on?

[recluserose]

If there's one thing anyone can discern about him, he likes 'interesting situations.' I suppose after living past 1000 you get bored easily and make your own fun. It's the only thing that explains why he took a normal human girl as an apprentice.

Also, he has a way of... Finding out things. I'm sure he knows you've been here twice already.

[spellbent]

Old boyfriends, mentors, demons. You really only have to deal with the latter if you came to visit me.

[recluserose]

[She blinks]

... Is that an invitation I'm hearing or is that just me?

[spellbent]

Do you want it to be an invitation?

[recluserose]

Well, to be honest I never heard of anyone inviting someone on the premises that they would only have to deal with demons with the potential to spew burning hellfire.

[spellbent]

I doubt he'd bother me with you around anyway.

[recluserose]

How convenient. I'd make a good bodyguard as well.
