[It was another night in the town of Blackgale, with no moon in sight to set the dark sky aglow amid the blanket of stars. The lack of moonlight, however, was not stopping the local (and only) witch, Amelia Steinbeck, from doing a much needed patrol for this particular night. After all, when a demon from the darkest realm from who knows where comes to ones doorstep with the intention of murder, there's probably others lurking around.

That wasn't going to do, not at all.


Of course, she had to be at school soon for an early morning meeting... But hey, it's high school and she was always on time no matter what, thanks to magic. And thus, Amelia began to wander around in the streets, with a green flame flickering in one hand-- only visible to her, other magic users, and a magnet for more demons.

[At Warren's offer, the cats start chattering excitedly among themselves]

Oh my!

It's probably nothing, is it?

Ooooooh, I bet HE doesn't know--

He'd throw a fit even though they're not-- [Amelia shoots a glare at all of the cats]

It was fun talking to you ladies, but I think you all better scatter before I call the pound. [The threat just makes them laugh, but they comply and slink away, their voices fading as they leave the premises]

... Anyways, I am a bit peckish. And early dinner doesn't sound bad.

[spellbent]

... Not to be rude, but what are they talking about?

[recluserose]

Nothing that you need to worry about.

[spellbent]

Amelia, please. Be honest with me.

[recluserose]

... I suppose when you put it THAT way...

They were probably referring to my ex.

[spellbent]

Your ex.

... Is that who you were apologizing to last night?

[recluserose]

[She looks slightly taken aback]

What!? No! Not him! That was for someone else-- you heard?? Ugh!

[spellbent]

Sorry. It was hard not to hear, I'm afraid.

[recluserose]

[Groans] I've been living alone for too long.

[spellbent]

Tell me about your ex, then.

[recluserose]

His name is Micheal DeRosiers. We've known each other since the days of our apprenticeship-- well, he's older than me actually about your age? I met him when I was ten.

[spellbent]

Not the vengeful sort, I hope?

[recluserose]

He... Used to be. We were considered rivals at some point in time. He's gotten better though. He's a better person than he would like to admit.

[spellbent]

I see. I guess we can just hope he doesn't get the wrong idea if we run into him.

[recluserose]

Unfortunately, that could be more than likely, but I doubt he'll show up today. He has his own apprentices to look after.

[spellbent]

We'll just have to see what happens.

Where would you like to go?

[recluserose]

There's this restaurant I know of downtown. A student of mine works there since it's family owned, but it's a great place regardless.

[spellbent]

Sounds good to me.

[recluserose]

[Timeskip over to the restaurant (since Amelia decided to refrain from teleporting). This place is a bistro styled restaurant named... Bohemian Rhapsody. Someone's family is a fan of Queen.

Anyways, the both of them are greeted by a young blonde waitress who recognizes Amelia]

Oh! Hello, Miss Steinbeck, it's been a while! [Blinks at Warren] Huh. You're new around here. Table for two then?

Thanks Emily. Tell your mother to take her time.

[spellbent]

Is there anyone here you don't know?

[recluserose]

[Emily rolls her eyes, but with good nature] She was my high school teacher! And she's going to teach my siblings soon. Being a teacher in a place like this is an automatic social network. Here, let me show you guys to your table.

[Amelia shrugs.] It's a small town and I've been here for longer than people realize.

[spellbent]

[ He falls in-step behind Amelia, waiting until they're seated and Emily is gone before posing his next question ]

Are you ever going to have to leave?

[recluserose]

[When Emily is out of sight, Amelia sighs and nods]

I'll have to at some point. I don't think I'll physically age for a while and at that rate it'll start looking suspicious.

[spellbent]

It might be a little odd if you stuck around to teach Emily's grandchildren looking like you do now.

Such is the life of the long-lived.
